Ya know, friendos (and friendas), I tell ya it is true, I am afflicted by a terribl birth defect since birth. Ah, sorrow! Ah, calamity! Ah, misfortune! I am indeed and effectively colourblind, unfoartunately. Could someone kindly help me and let me know the dominant colours in that fine piece of art please? What colours were used to paint this geisha? Are they well mixed like a fine subtle perfume or detonating like crazy? Also, why do you think the artist mixed them like that? And why were these colours used in the first place, and not other ones? Also, what makes this painting an “immortal Geisha” and not an “old germanic prostitute”, for instance, or why not a “young greek maid”? Why an immortal japanese geisha? Anyone got any idea?

My aunt, who is in Japan, is a fan of geisha paintings. I will send her this link. She buys a ton. I am half asian, not that it matters… heheheh.

Excellent work, Marina! Very bold use of color. Its very abstract (I like abstract art) but it still has an interestingly subtle form. Well done. I’ve tried to paint in the past, but its just not my thing. I liked both your painting and how you video’d it being made.

As for my artistic endeavors (of the musical sort), I continue to struggle to find a drummer who can get the part right for my song “The Harder They Fall’. We’ve tracked everything but still need to replace the drums. I still have an excellent engineer lined up and a great studio available. So I’m vetting drummers and hope to get that done this month, and then get all the video stuff done next month, then put it out and up on youtube starting next year. I guess it’s just meant to be dropped at the start of a political year. lol This drummer impasse kind of sucks being that I feel I have a rebellious song that preceded the Arab Spring and the whole Occupy Everything movement. But so it goes… I’m sure the world will still be in turmoil by the time my song drops. And this song is it’s own thing, regardless of the political flavors of the month.

Anyway, not sure what the HotForWords hiatus was all about, but I hope our trusty teach is back and better than ever. All my best, and I’ll keep you posted on my musical progress. Peace and love, Errin

I went there once and found it to be very impersonal. I had dinner in a little diner, and, when I got up to use the can, everything was cleared away when I came back. (I guess that is what you would call a NY minute.)

    Sorry, couldn’t resist. :-)

I cannot explain the title, however, perhaps I can help you “see” the painting. Be warned that I am somewhat red-green difficient according to the FAA (as are about 20% of males), so this may be a case of the not-quite-so-colorblind leading the completely color blind.

It’s a harsh assessment, I know.
Mostly an adolescent lashing out at the recent news. Could it be rumor? Maybe, but something in my stomach tells me otherwise.

Hmm…. The BN spot next to the GL doesn’t make sense. Are you shure of your analysis? I think it should be GY. And the GY shouldn’t be mixed with the GN. GYGN. GYGN, what is that? It looks as stupid as a NASDAQ ticker symbol. No. I say the GY area should be made larger, much larger, and it should stand alone, right next to the GL, which should be made smaller, much smaller (perhaps around a little tinyweeny spot of BU). And both should encounter each other and mix with a lot of R, which is obviously the dominant colour on the picture. Whatcha think about that? You just opened my colourblinded eyes, CK, and I thank you for that.

Perhaps you missed the part of the legend that explained that / means a mix of colors.

It goes back to william the conqueror. The south of england sucked up to the new ruler, but the north continued to resist. The problem was solved by a series of massacres. There’s been a sense of 2 nations ever since.

It’s only been a thousands years tho, maybe time will heal the wounds.

i think the idea of them is better than actually pieholing them.   I had one – i kinda sorta enjoyed it .. but not as much as the thought of it.

i think the key is dependable regularity.

if she want’s the site to return to its former glory, she’ll have to produce videos regular as clockwork. (eg. exactly the same day(s)/week and same time/day) And maybe give some hint of presence.
But, this site was created in the days before twitter and facebook – a bygone, simple age.  M probably doesn’t see the site as the hub of her creativity like she did before (assuming she did).

However, twitter and facebook aren’t good for creating a core community (in the way this site did). Then again, maybe she doesn’t see the need for a core HFW community. We don’t know what the actual M has going on.  All we know is the created, projected twitter/video M persona, and she aint telling.
