Marina Tweeted. . .”I need a random fact involving the number 40. Something trivial like: x weight 40 pounds.. or there are 40 m&ms in a bag. Something stupid”.

Well – I do not know if this will qualify for stupid, but the number 40 has some very significant meaning in the Bible.

    The Number Forty
The number forty has long been universally recognized as an important number, both on account of the frequency of its occurrence, and the uniformity of its association with a period of probation, trial, and chastisement—(not judgment, like the number 9, which stands in connection with the punishment of enemies, but the chastisement of sons, and of a covenant people). It is the product of 5 and 8, and points to the action of grace (5), leading to and ending in revival and renewal (8). This is certainly the case where Forty relates to a period of evident probation. But where it relates to enlarged dominion, or to renewed or extended rule, then it does so in virtue of its factors 4 and 10, and in harmony with their signification.

There are 15 such periods which appear on the surface of the Scriptures, and which may be thus classified:—

Forty Years of Probation by Trial

Israel in the wilderness, Deuteronomy 8:2-5; Psalm 95:10; Acts 13:18
(the third 40 of Moses’ life, 120 years).

Israel from the crucifixion to the destruction of Jerusalem.

Forty Years of Probation by Prosperity in Deliverance and Rest

    under Othniel, Judges 3:11,

    under Barak, Judges 5:31,

    under Gideon, Judges 8:28.

Forty Years of Probation by Prosperity in Enlarged Dominion

    under David, 2Samuel 5:4,

    under Solomon, 1 Kings 11:42,

    under Jeroboam II. See 2 Kings 12:17,18, 13:3,5,7,22,25, 14:12-14,23,28,

    under Jehoash, 2 Kings 12:1,

    under Joash, 2Chronicles 24:1.

Forty Years of Probation by Humiliation and Servitude

Israel under the Philistines, Judges 13:1.

Israel in the time of Eli, 1Samuel 4:18.

    Israel under Saul, Acts 13:21.

Forty Years of Probation by Waiting

    Moses in Egypt, Acts 7:23.

    Moses in Midian, Acts 7:30

    Forty Days

There are eight of such great periods on the surface of the Bible:

Forty days Moses was in the mount, Exodus 24:18; and to receive the Law, Exodus 24:18.

Forty days Moses was in the mount after the sin of the Golden Calf, Deuteronomy 9:18,25.

Forty days of the spies, issuing in the penal sentence of the 40 years, Numbers 13:26, 14:34.

Forty days of Elijah in Horeb, 1 Kings 19:8.

Forty days of Jonah and Nineveh, Jonah 3:4.

Forty days Ezekiel lay on his right side to symbolize the 40 years of Judah’s transgression.*

Forty days Jesus was tempted of the Devil, Matthew 4:2.

Forty days Jesus was seen of His disciples, speaking of things pertaining to God’s kingdom, Acts 1:2.

    * Thus 40 becomes a number closely connected with Judah, as 390 (Ezekiel 4:5) is the number of separated Israel. The significance of this will be seen (on note on number 8), for 40 is a multiple of 8, and 390 is a multiple of 13. It may also be noted that 65 (5×13) is the number of Ephraim, while 70 is specially connected with Jerusalem.

A non-commissioned officer, who accompanied a lieutenant, drew his revolver from the big, black holster strapped about his waist. Bending over, he placed the muzzle of the revolver almost – but not quite – against the left temple of the spy. He pulled the trigger, and the bullet tore into the brain of the woman.

    Mata Hari was surely dead.”

Wow… this is funny and well written.

Is she the girl in the video that someone posted a link to that said she sounds like you sister (always in the background)? I think it was pagedoll?

Anyway… some people were complaining about too much or not enough comedy in the videos? I think I have found the definitive acceptable amount…

At the end of every video you write this…

    Author: HotForWords
Not your typical philologist! Putting the LOL in PhiLOLogy :-)

And if you notice the “PhiLOLogy” word is 9 letters long and the LOL is 3.
So the acceptable amount of comedy (or laughing out loud) in a PhiLOLogy video is 1/3 and that’s approximately what you do.

So I guess our trusty HotForWord is a real stickler for truth in advertisement

{philistinism}—-I love DEVO…is that a secret?–“I Spy” broke new ground in that it was the first American television drama to feature an African-American actor (Cosby) in a lead role. D.evol.ution is the statutory granting of powers from the central government of a sovereign state to government at a subnational level, such as a regional, local, or state level. It differs from federalism in that the powers devolved may be temporary and ultimately reside in central government, thus the state remains, de jure, unitary.~~~sourced link~~~or thisDevolution presumes that there is somehow a preferred hierarchy of structure and function, and that evolution must mean “progress” to “more advanced” organisms. For example, it could be said that “feet are better than hooves” or “lungs are better than gills”, so that change to the “less advanced” structure would be called “devolution”….sourcedhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devolution_(biological_fallacy)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKMhrvPN70s

    Homework:
How many days do children go to school in Russia?
Russian children start school on Sept 1 also known as “Knowledge Day” and ends on “The last bell” on May 25. There are four terms separated by 4 weeks of holidays. The typical number of days for a school year is 195 days compared to 180 in the US and 223 days in Japan. OK, can we talk now and can I have my 5 now.

Shorter than a Russian 10 mm. The S&W 40 cal. did it for the feds about 20 years ago when the 357 and the 45 was not enough stopping power. :o Yeh right! The 357 was the Desert eagle on the 1911 frame, low mag capacity and jamming was a problem. The 45 was slow and not accurate at 60 yards. But I love my 45 and can make it peel your ears back a 150 yards. Had a 40 cal glock G27 didn’t like it, it kicked too much and got off a second round sometimes.

Hey ChaCha, I occasionally get an error also, but rarely.
I think what happens, but don’t quote me on this is that YT is constantly making changes and updates. So, what happens is if you are perpetually logged into YT, then, when they make changes, your cookies and login credentials are not updated. When you do login, then the files in your cache and cookies don’t always synchronize and you will get those errors.
Try clearing your cache and cookies. When you clear your cookies, you’ll have to re-enter your login credentials to all of your sites, unless you selectively clear cookies per site.

I’ve never had a Thumbs Up rating issue for any video, but the thumbs up on the commentors can be slow at times where updates can take several minutes.

Re wordsmith: I got “Sprachgefuhl” from Anu Garg’s book “The Dord, the Diglot, and an Avocado or Two.” Garg is a sort of Sir William Jones in reverse, an Indian who has researched English and its history; currently living in Seattle. I’d love to see him in a discussion with Marina.

“The apple didn’t fall too far from the valley” might be an example of Sprachgefuhl — the ability to take a well-known idiom and proverb from your adopted language and put a clever twist on it to illustrate your point. (Did anyone else get pKarl’s joke? I thought it dreadfully clever!)

    UPDATE:
Hey ChaCha, I was on YouTube, and clicked to play a video.
Up came a *Google* error page. “502 Server Error”
Then, several seconds later, the video played fine.
So, you may encounter all kinds of errors as Google/YT do their thing.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/melikadothechacha/ Me Lika Do The Cha Cha

Most of the new taxes will hit after the next presidential election. One new tax is a 10% surcharge that only effects pale white folks who go to tanning salons; but it is claimed this is not racial discrimination.
It is designed to put tanning salons out of business and keep white folks ‘white’,
So, it’s really an anti-business tax.
They’ve already figured out there won’t be enough doctors and facilities to make it work and are discussing putting together a “panel to access peoples needs” (or “death panel, but they won’t call it that until after they’ve denied people care and kill off a bunch of elderly folks).
Aside from that – there is no free healthcare in America from the bill.

    YouTube/Google may be having problems.
I am getting an awful lot of Google “Server 502 errors” when attempting to play YT videos.
It might be a local Google caching server issue or may be global.
For some of you having video viewing problems, it might be relate to this issue.

I see the same error, so it may be global.

BTW. It seems so strange when we realize that proper functioning of the modern global economy depends on a dozen of sub-Atlantic optical fiber cables.

    Hi fglrx,
It’s interesting that the communications infrastructure does not keep up with the computing infrastructure, at least in many locations. As many people have commented, that in Asia and other parts of the world the communications infrastructure is more advanced than in the US. I live in an area that has a high concentration of engineers, and we have the worst communications infrastructure. On one of the TV channels I saw a documentary about the Atlantic cable and how they updated it from copper to fiber.

    Adeen – 1
    Dva – 2
    Tree – 3
    Chyetirye – 4
    Pyat – 5
    Shest – 6
    Syem – 7
    Vosyem – 8
    Dyevyat – 9
    Dyesyat – 10

    Homework:
What do I do when I have trouble sleeping?
I use a color “countdown” starting with red to violet. It works really well.
Another thing that works really well is to sprinkle some table salt crystals on a spoon and then lick the crystals with your tongue and let the salt crystals dissolve. It knocks me out in fifteen minutes.

Oooooh, you’re getting way too close to my secret.

In response to the HotForWords tweet, what is your
favorite movie of all time. Did you see what I tweeted?
    http://twitter.com/pedantickarl/status/17610475550

Then, three months ago I posted in the Forum this note.
“For me, there are two reasons why I would want to visit Russia. The first is because of the Russian writers such as Dostoyevsky, poet Pushkin, Tolstoy and especially Boris Pasternak’s novel “Doctor Zhivago” which is also one of my all time favorite movies.”

The second reason is very mysterious and personal as it involves two cities. One city is Kaliningrad (Königsberg) and the other city is yet to be determined, but could be as close as Arzamas or Marina’s birthplace.
Did you get the hint, huh, huh? ;-)

I’d like to request that you tell us {why is English writing so complicated?} Why can’t English words be written just as pronounced? Where did the idea come that something should be written so complicated? Like {CONSCIOUSNESS} for example… :)

    Greetings exarifov,
Welcome to the HotForWords site. You’ve asked a great question that many people have asked and when you go back to some previous video pages, you’ll see where people have asked the same question.

I don’t know about the word consciousness, but the idea that words are written so complicated is because many English words came from other languages like French, German and many more languages and those words changed over time. One example is the word knight. Later, more words entered the English language as borrowed words, like kindergarten for example.

Check out this excellent video where Marina
talks about two commonly used words that have
    their roots in other languages.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/marina/ HotForWords

Do you still get an error on this video?

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/pedantickarl/ pedanticKarl

    Hi Marina,
I have never received an error with this video.
I was getting a lot of Server 502 errors on other videos but not your videos.

Google server farms seemed to be having the issue which not only affected the video but the data collection. I am tracking a bunch of stuff and I can see holes in my data going back to around 2 AM yesterday. Interestingly, the YT Channel data was not affected, just the video pages which includes the comments, video and the numeric data which means the views would be low. From my data it looks like the outages occurred over a period of 8+ hours. I’m not sure if re-uploading will help. If you see other issues such as others not being able to watch the video, then go ahead and try re-uploading.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/marina/ HotForWords

It a real shame as the video has no views after 2 days and I’d hate it to die a horrible insignificant death! But I also hate losing the views and comments that the video has already received. I am at a loss for what to do.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/pedantickarl/ pedanticKarl

Yes, YouTube was messed up yesterday from around 2 AM through noon and beyond. I never had problems with your video, but many other videos. Your views data was affected by the YT issues.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/pedantickarl/ pedanticKarl

Try Tweeting the video again and let’s see the result.
Tweet via bitly to track progress of tweet responses versus YT views responses.

The resultant views will be probably less than usual since many people have already seen the video. If views then don’t pick up, then try re-uploading. What should the test time be? Not sure. Maybe I would give it at least 4 hours maybe 8. But, if you feel you want to re-upload earlier, that would be OK.

    Hello, Miss Marina.
Shortly after you uploaded this video, YouTube was down for maintenance for several hours. I was unable to access my account information because of the maintenance issue. It may be possible the YouTube maintenance had something to do with your issues.

Your YouTube account says you have had 33,338 views on the Espionage video thus far.

She would accuse me in front of strangers and tell me that “boy when I get you home, I’m going to cut a switch and I’m going to tear your ass up.” Even when I was 17, she would make me strip butt naked and she would whip me on the lower back and legs. If she broke the switch she had this 1950 style belt that was skinny and thick like a whip, she would make me dance eight to the bar until I would be begging and jumping “yes mam” at every stroke. Yes, a relentless bitch who I feared because she could whip me 3 time a day and not ever get tired. If I said the wrong word down went my pants and if I was too slow or pleaded with her she would start hitting my back until I was naked and bent over for her. God what a mean bitch she was.

    Great VR,
Some issues that could have given you grief are these:
    - CAPS locked can mess up passwords

    - If you have numbers in the password and you use the keypad, and you are not in NUM LOCK, that can mess you up. For passwords, I never use the keypad, but the numbers above the alpha keys.

    - Stale browser cookies can also mess things up.

Great song/music. A nice piece of pop. How is it you get to draw outside the lines?

I spy is a guessing game usually played in families with young children, partly to assist in both observation and in alphabet familiarity. I spy is often played as a car game.

One person starts by choosing an object (a cow, for example) and says “I spy with my little eye, something beginning with C” or simply “I spy something beginning with C.” The other players look around and suggest things it might be: “Crow” (no), “Car” (no), “Cloud” (no), “Cow” – yes. The person who guesses correctly often gets to choose the next object.

Often the game is played without the accumulation of points, and winning a round simply results in the initiation of further play.

When played in a car, the group playing may need to decide beforehand what to do about items that are no longer visible (the field with the cows is a mile back – usually permitted but the person choosing the object has to say “I can’t see it any more” and “I can see it now”). Sometimes items within the car are excluded.

A slightly more challenging version uses phrases – “I spy with my little eye something beginning with B A W C” for “Black and white cow”. Another variation of this game is to play using colors, such as ‘I spy with my little eye something that is green’.

A further variation to the game is titled ‘I hear with my little ear’. It functions, as the title suggests, with sounds instead of sights.
I once orbited around my dinning room table for about three months. Due to the gravitational pull of the table, other household objects began to orbit as well.

Int’l community condemns suicide bombings in Iran, death toll rises

TEHRAN, July 16 (Xinhua) — The international community on Friday continued to condemn Thursday’s twin suicide bombings in southeast Iran, which has killed at least 28 people according to the latest tally.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post said there was an attempt in Iran to hold the United States at least partly responsible for the attacks, citing an Iranian state radio program saying the attacks were in line with U.S. policies against Iran.

But the United States said earlier it condemns all forms of terrorism and sectarian-driven violence.

Jundallah, a mainly Sunni rebel group, has claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying that they were in retaliation against the government’s execution of the group’s leader Abdolmalek Rigi last month.

The majority of the Iranian population are Shiite.

Health Minister Marzieh Vahid Dastagerdi said Friday some 270 people were also injured in the attacks in front of a mosque in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province, including some in serious condition.

Deputy Interior Minister Ali Abdollahi said a number of Revolutionary Guards were among the casaulties.

Iran has announced three days of public mourning in Sistan-Baluchestan and said the bodies of those killed would be buried on Saturday.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/pedantickarl/ pedanticKarl

It looks like by the title of your comment, you already
know that the song “Those were the days” is a
Russian song entitled “Dorogoi dlinnoyu” (Дорогой длинною),
meaning “By the long road”, written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948)
with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii.

The song deals with reminiscence upon youth and romantic idealism.
Georgian Tamara Tsereteli (1900-1968) in 1925 and Alexander Vertinsky in 1926 made what were probably the earliest recordings of the song. However, it is best remembered for Mary Hopkin’s 1968 recording, which was a top-ten hit in both the U.S. and the U.K.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/red-dragon/ Evan Owen

    Hi pedanticKarl,
You’re really living up to your name!
But seriously, I forget there are two generations who have grown up not remembering Mary Hopkin. I think most of us knew at the time it was a Russian song (but then again, I was in a Russian class.) Thanks for filling in the details.

Ms. Hopkin is still singing, & doesn’t look bad for 60.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/pedantickarl/ pedanticKarl

    Hey aLx, how are ya!
By the way, I did the same thing. When I pasted paragraphs from my own comments, I also came up as writing like H. P. Lovecraft.

I read a review of that site and the algorithm for determining who one writes like is not rigorous in pinpointing a specific writer, but it is a great idea and a great start where I’m sure the algorithm will be tweaked and improved.

That site was created by Dmitry Chestnykh, a 27-year-old Russian software programmer currently living in Montenegro. Though he speaks English reasonably well, it’s his second language.

Currently, that site’s algorithm is mainly keyword based, and actual writing comparison is based more on punctuation, rhythm and structure.

Here are two reviews of the site.

If the real Anna Chapman were as pretty and smart as Marina, her spy ring may have actually accomplished something. As it were…

I’m a firm believer in doing something well if you are going to do it at all. It’s pretty hard to respect a spy ring that served little purpose and caused little impact beyond embarrassing itself.

And I must admit that I really must take issue with Anna Chapman’s supposed hotness. She’s somewhat lacking both mentally and physically when it comes to hotness. Hot? No. Doable? Maybe. I guess she was okay for New York City, but she wouldn’t cut it much in Los Angeles. I totally feel her hotness was overstated as a way to somehow spin this spy story into something more interesting than it was.

You know what would have made Anna hot? If her special one-way connection laptop were connected solely to HotForWords.com, where intelligence gathering is sexy.

    Peace, Errin : )

From the very beginning, the recent spy scandal between Russia and the US reads like the pages of an espionage novel. A master of the genre, Frederick Forsyth offers his interpretation of what it was all about.

    Dyekabr – December

    Homework1:
What is my favorite holiday? Every holiday is my favorite, especially since I get to watch twice as many HotForWords lessons.

    Homework2:
Why do Russian celebrate Christmas in January?

The reason is that the Russian Orthodox Church still lives according to the old Julian Calendar, which is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian Calendar, which is adopted by most countries in the world and by the Russian government.

Another reason was to protest against the Bolsheviks and their interference in church affairs. At the end of 1917 the Bolshevik government decided to adopt the Gregorian calendar and the Russian Orthodox church decided not to follow the rules set by the increasingly oppressive civil authorities.

Another reason for celebrating Christmas in January was perhaps to stick to the older rules in which generations of Russian Christians had been praising the Lord and observing the holidays.

There are not only Facebook under control and not only by CIA, it is no wonder and not a big secret, it is easy in today’s tech era.
The total security is the total control.
This is the most ridiculous a spy exposé in the history. The exposed spy gives interviews about her business with happy enthusiasm and wants to sell her spy story for 250,000 dollars. The fun is that the US allows it but the money will have to go to the US federal budget. Now we know the price of the secrets. Also, the Hollywood has the movie about Russian spy already. Spies…

I’ll just default to an essay my FB friend “Mo” wrote today…

    The link: http://www.facebook.com/alightman#!/notes/monica-do-coutto-monni/looking-for-true-love-a-message-to-all-the-lonely-people/150274331653344

    The words…

“LOOKING FOR TRUE LOVE – A MESSAGE TO ALL THE LONELY PEOPLEShare
    Today at 6:19am
This is a message to you all my friends, inspired by and in response to my bright young friend Allen, who is so sincere and lion-hearted, and says his mind openly. He has been looking for love everywhere – and although he is handsome, talented, absolutely honest and is trying his best, he finds one disappointment after another. Does it ring a bell in your life too, my friend…? Well, welcome to the club. We are all in this one boat…
Indeed, winning the love of an honest sincere heart is like winning the lottery alone.
And yes, indeed you are more than lottery – you, my friend, are a priceless treasure. No money can buy what you have to give to the world and nothing the world can offer will ever be up to the true value of your soul. Good is priceless. So we are left with just one option: give ourselves for free – and NEVER allow anything or anyone to buy us out in terms of dignity and values. We are to represent and role-model the next step of evolution, a dignified highly-evolved humanity, to our generation. This generally comes with a HUGE price tag: personal loneliness. So my idea is always to be around true diamonds like you, my friends, to be that brief oasis to you all: “Mo is around, finally I can receive a little care and attention without being ripped off by a user” LOL
I like to be oasis to my friends. Because like YOU I have seldom found oasis for myself. My journey, our journey, is through a desert of people who are very poor of love…
That’s the only option we are left with, my friend: being self-givers. The sun cannot help shining on and giving life to its distant “family” of planets…
Sorry for never being too specific or precise. I acknowledge, it’s a helpless flaw in my language: I like to speak in metaphors because I don’t believe you can really touch “souls” directly without poetry… beauty and truth are more easily conveyed through it, because metaphor is not the language of tyranny, it is fluid like knowing God little by little – it is inexhaustible: every day you discover one more lovely angle of virtue, goodness and awe of “all the things you are, all the things God is…”
The precise language of science is useful and leads you to objective pieces of knowledge, this is true: but it is also the language of “unquestionable truths”, in other words, the language of tyranny and political brain-washing. At the present moment humanity lives – globalization – there is a real risk of a global tyranny being installed through global brainwashing for certain specific values and behaviour through mass media. Messages are VERY specific in the language of political propaganda of tyrannical empires: “do this, be that, buy it, be an idiot drone and do as I say.”
I’ve observed for many years politico-economical academic and media lords, those who are sowing the seeds of a global tyranny little by little – they don’t even know what they are doing it in most cases Allen – they are blind puppets of an old monster who plays them – has played leaders for millennia: the monstrous cultural outgrowth of human predatory survival strategies transformed into daily practices and our long-lasting “zeitgeist”… Simple translation: “give me more, more, more, it’s all mine, I’m the center of the world, you are all here to work for me, to serve me, to give me what I want.”
I’ve observed closely these so-called “leaders” – including IT geniuses, my greatest concern, because they are ALTOGETHER unprepared future power lords of humanity: they detain the knowledge that can stop the planet but they do not detain wisdom and high moral and ethical values. Therefore, they have a decisive winning hand of cards in the game of power now but they are like kings who prefer to play with their toys in the nursery instead of leading their people to the Promised Land with lots of devotion, sincere heart, wise mind and skilled hands. Most IT leading guys ARE CLUELESS in terms of values. They consider themselves so intelligent and superior but are played by the system so easily… real sitting ducks… they can be bought out for pennies… with all this power in their hands…sex, better salary, futile honours, comfort… Comfortably numb, 99% of them are… or so anxious that they slip into the other extreme of being played and bought out by the system: addictions, high anxiety, depression, psychological dysfunctions… this is a way to be played by the system too… and be bought out and “neutralized.”
It’s not only IT guys. I’ve observed from an “up-close and personal” referential – as family, educator and/or close friend – the most extraordinary scientists of our generation, the most admirably high-quality disciplined entrepreneurs and men of politics… same devastation… they all think they are really intelligent and “the centre of the universe” and are not aware how deep are the hooks of power stuck in their very core, pulling them, pushing them, playing them, obliging them to speak this or that line…
Shakespeare once said that the world is a big theatre stage and humans are the actors… Fate is the playwright… Depending on the place and role you’re put by Fate on stage, you are obliged to repeat the line that was written for that character for the rest of your life… until someone else substitutes you in the role…
On a famous moment of his life, my One and Only Bill S. was sitting on his desk by the window, with his writing plume in his hand, and he tells Fate: “OK, you are the playwright and director of this great play. You use us all as your characters and you play us. But my revenge will be to write YOUR play, so that all humans can understand it, and choose their own free pathways and roles.” And that’s what he did. Shakespeare devoted his life to write all the lines we all repeat again and again, and the drama unfolding on the stage of human life in the world, scene by scene… It’s all there: the fight for love and glory as time goes by, internal doubts, insecurity, hatred and revenge, greed, vulgarity, mediocrity, lies and lion-hearted extraordinary men being destroyed by small flaws of their characters…
Like King Lear, who loved being flattered and preferred the false praises of 2 ambitious deceitful women than the plain unattractive frank words of the only woman who really loved him: his 3 daughters in the play – translate it into all the women that try to surround and subdue men of power again and again, every day, to get what he has.
All these beautiful bodies, “sweet” words, “sweet” smiles and inviting “sweet” long stares, excessive attentions and praises, flattering, promise of sexual favours… these are strategies to distract prey while the close the circle around the victim… because hyena don’t know they are also being played by the system. They hunt men of power to scavenge on part of the spoils of power, themselves… They “kill” their man, economically, cognitively, psychologically, politically or emotionally, in some way… They neutralize a guy who could have changed the future of our descendants, instead of fighting bravely by his side to get it done…When they finally “finish” with the meal, they go after the next victim, to scavenge on his material assets, prestige, networking contacts, privileges, etc… Till they “eat him to the bone” and finally tell him “he has nothing to offer her”… and so on and so forth…
It is pathetic… good men and women predating on one another and nobody getting nowhere but to destruction… all of them, extraordinary human beings sometimes, being played by a predatory culture… Seduction, court and mating rituals, used in a twisted way to destroy lives… Reminds me so much of that famous scene of the two flowers in the animated “The Wall,” Pink Ffloyd…
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS_FCbQ-okM
“Surround and subdue”, this is not “court and mating ritual” at all, this is twisted love, this is personal selfishness and ambition disguised in Cupid’s custom, this is a predatory strategy… in the jungle, this means “lunch”… The poor guys do not even realize that at every time they smile back at hyena’s silly laughter and promises of quick fuck, they are going straight to the mouth of the monster who will swallow them. Neutralize all they could have been, all they could have done to Turn the Tide, to change things for good…
They get distracted along the way, and this becomes mortal in terms of what they could have developed for humanity, the same way it is mortal to get distracted in the jungle… Go gather more money, work more to give even better condition to the stupid woman who opened her legs to stupid idiot and got impregnated… Is that this worth it after all? A whole life of slaving out at work to receive mostly indifference and unwelcoming reception…?
Then there comes dissatisfaction, loneliness, unrest, anxiety, there they go after new “entertainment,” thinking that this is all that there is in terms of “happiness”… There they fall into the claws of the next “sweet” predator, there they go deeply hurt again – when “I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the woods” undresses from the ship’s skin after marriage/blackmail of married lover – and shows her true colours, the wolf in it… Then there comes divorce, scandal, loss of all assets they had gathered, precious time that could have been invested in self-enhancement, education, volunteer work, professional growth, etc, going uselessly down the drain… And with it, their innocence, their hope, their peace of mind, their belief that things can get better. They get tired and bitter, they lose trust. And they are lunch. Not for hyena, exclusively. Both hyena and prey are actually lunch to the predatory system… And the big irony is: WE have created and perpetuate the system that destroys us. Perpetuate it by giving to it our very last drop of blood and all our efforts of “climbing the social ladder”…
People do not believe you if you tell them the truth, as King Lear did not believe his loyal serious hard-working “boring” daughter… She did not entertain him in the throne hall; she did not make him laugh that often… because of course she was not a clown or the king’s jester. She was a born queen. And she had serious, watchful eyes over reality, trying to protect her father on the throne as long as he lived… What she had to give him, is that deep happiness that makes you laugh out loud less – and smile deep in your heart all the time. NOT attractive, isn’t it…?
King Lear expelled her from his kingdom, and gave power to the 2 bitches: his flattering smiling “merry jolly good fellas” playful entertaining daughters. They immediately “pierced his eyes” and made him blind and helpless (what a powerful metaphor for what really happens!) and expelled HIM from HIS kingdom, to sit on the throne with their lovers… Then he wandered as a beggar along the pathways for many years, till one day a compassionate hand took him by the hand and started taking care of him, silently, for the rest of his life… It was his loyal daughter, in whose arms he finally died. Both victims of the same system, both ending up powerless…
A King who became a beggar, a born queen who became an expatriate…
The divine Mind of my One and Only Bill. S. describing what is awaiting for EVERY AND EACH human being out there, throughout the centuries… But as Jesus often sighed “I speak in parables because you would not understand the truth, and even tough you don’t understand me…I must then explain the parable to you…”
As for my constant references to Brazil – I was born there, and Brazil is well-known for its “Amazon jungle.” This is my way to point out that I’ve come from this “metaphorical human jungle”, that I’ve survived it all, known the best and worst that life can give a mortal, and that so far nothing and nobody captured me… I grew into a lonely experienced independent “tropical lioness” as I like to put it: grumpy, full of scars – and tired of escaping from traps… some traps I’ve just outlined here… the trap of false loves, my friend… dominant primary alpha-females also suffer from it, because at the end of the day, when you are young and inexperienced, all of us try to find what you’re trying: being truly loved by someone who is here to stay. So we also go into traps, and you bet that to break the bars of the cage and face your jailer in mortal combat – as a woman – this is done at the expense of being deeply wounded all over… just like you guys hurt when you survive deceitful predatory women…

I don’t take it like a woman anymore.
You men should not take it like a man either. This starts by not being a complete retard and looking pro-actively for trouble in the arms (I mean, jaws) of hyena.
Young guys must learn to say “NO” at the very first sign of smoke, instead of being idiotically pleased at fake “sweet” smiles and words.
I’ve tried to teach this to my students in Brazil for two generations (sigh), all “Latin lovers,” really self-satisfied and thinking they are “irresistible” – and that women are really around them fighting for a piece of their attention because they are really that charming HA HA HA HA HA
And they say I’m the blonde here ;0)
What I used to tell them with the same serious sincerity King Lear’s faithful daughter would have done, was:
“You men are so cheap. Your price is two winks and a smile. Sometimes one wink will do. You cost less than the 5-buck old prostitute on the street corner. How do you intend to win the priceless love of a priceless woman this way…? Priceless women won’t run after you, won’t dispute you. They shall be waiting silently that you prove yourself worthy of her loyalty. You don’t find priceless love on the street corner.”
Please be different, please make me proud of your independence of thought and dignified spirit!
With much (responsible true dignifying) love,
    Monica”

Wow. This reads like someone writing a journal for therapy!
If I had to give it a title, I’d call the piece “Neurotica”
I’m not sure if this ramble has anything to do with espionage,
or any threads already on the page. I didn’t see any connection.
Maybe next time you could use the forums for this type of post.

    Dear Allyn Tygrrr,
I read your comment with interest. It inspired several thoughts. Since this website is devoted to the study of language, I thought I would start with a comment about language. In your comment, Monica observes that she is (sometimes) speaking poetically. In poetry, the connotations of a word or phrase gain significantlly in contributing to meaning as opposed to science or math. It appears to be a part of the human condition that we sometimes find it better to communicate poetically and sometimes not. Sometimes, though not always, when a person finds themselves unable to speak non-poetically, it is an indication that they are too uncomfortable to communicate otherwise. The interplay between speaking poetically and non-poetically is one which I find fascinating.
A second point that I would like to make is that people don’t intentionally hurt others as often as it seems. Typically, when one person does something that is hurtful to another, it is more likely to by a by-product of something else. I know one person that could only respond by nagging and whining to anything I said or did. I also know that her father was very negative towards her and that her negativity towards me was the negativity that she would have preferred to express towards her father in return for the negativity that he expressed towards her. However, as she was also very fearful of her father, she expressed her negativity towards me instead. Examples simular to this one could be multiplied throughout all of humanity. People rarely go out of their way to be hurtful towards others, though that does happen sometimes, but they often are hurtful towards others as a kind of collateral damage to other things that they are aiming for.
In light of this, it helps to not take others failings so seriously. One can become aware of peoples habitual shortcomings without feeling overwhelmed by them. To quote the blessed Spinoza “non reidere, non lugere, neque detestari, sed intelligere” (smile not, lament not, nor condemn; but understand).
    Thank you for your time,
    Larry

The reason I randomly posted this essay of Mo’s in response to Marina’s very interesting post of the Russian spy thing is, well, it’s a pretty ugly reflection of humanity.

Not in the creatures, in the systems and protocols them become part of.

Although of course no party unaware of the information knows this, the context surrounding the scenarios and random association I created in posting Mo’s reply on this video os Marina’s is merely a parallel of reflections I’ve seen.

If you know the backstories and associations it might make more sense, but the reasons in posting this were not to distribute the knowledge to the entire world, merely to make a personal statement based on people and things I’ve seen.

The vast majority of spies are over-rated.

Is it because of that video that you put this story of scat on your site???

It’s weird to watch some older videos and then watch recent ones, it’s becomming really serious even you make me laugh to tears all the time but, i found it interresting the way you have been joking (…) and now are mindfull i would say (i hope it’s not a too strong word). It’s bisare too look at someone you’ve never seen in reality, have complicity with her, have laughing, see and hear her, learn from her a bit and never had seen her in life!! i think this is what’s the most confusing! You know like i imagine myself talk to you or respond you and then it always turn into complicity… (that i don’t experiment in life for example…)So it’s hard to have a virtual relationship with a virtual girlfriend and realise it all the way! But i must tell you that i find some compability that it’s hard to hide because it’s really adorable for me and im always thinking we can be also a great friend (if you were with less charms of course : you’re just so beautiful, it’s so magic that i just can’t feint you don’t attract me cause you do a lot, it’s just impossible to describe it by the way, it’s a strong emotion, that’s it…). I find it just a bit hard : i think im trying to seduce the most clever girl i’ve never seen, having realised there’s some probable way to demonstate how i feel about it and about you like descibing the way i see you on videos for example but, i don’t think this to be as private as i wish this to be so… i have some issues with demonstate my charm over you witch is real and sweet. So until next time, bye! nd
