Marina / Марина, I have a request: how would you say “Nice rack!”, assuming one is a guest at a hunting lodge and looking at really nice set of antlers?

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/christoph/ christoph

Perhaps it might be nice to say Izvinitye after being superstitious, since so many different superstitions involve the need to spit.

    Deat Marina,
Vsyego Khoroshyevo. I see I’m going to be good at tongue-twisters if I can learn to speak Russian as well as you do. You’ve given us much vocabulary, already.
    Here’s some of your homework:
A reason to say “Izvinitye” would be if I were standing behind you and you spat over your shoulder three times. The actor who played Sherlock Holmes on Russian TV was Vasily Livanov. “Ya Opazdyvayu” takes place whenever I take an airplane flight. They always seem to be late, but we have to arrive at the airport early to go through all the security.
I’ve been watching World Cup soccer recently. I wonder what the Russian word for “socceer” is? Or do they call it “football” as they do in other countries? (Germany = Fussball; Dutch – Voetbal; French = Le football.) :?:

    Congratulations, Greatest Potential!

If I knew how to say it in Russian,
    I would have, but I don’t.
And, that gets to be risky as there are
many ways to write it, it seems.
One Google translation shows it as pervyĭ.
Oh, oh, I better not do that one, Evan might
just come by any minute now and make pun of me.

Erm.. I just happen to wonder how “Oooh, you touch my tra-la-la” and “Hum.. I ding ding dong” translate into Greek..

Oh, no touch my Trah la lah

I have absooolutely no freaking idea about the foreign exotic meaning of this.. Perhaps it would make for quite an educative and interesting lesson when the Russian words are done with… But, of course, I’m no freaking authority in education..

good luck? is that why russian guys allways clear their throats to spit green snot on the street? this is really disgusting. they shouldn’t do this!

Marina, I was watching another Russian movie titled “The Thief” During the movie I noticed that the thief seemed to give the international sign that in the US is the middle finger, in England is the reverse of the famous Churchill sign for victory, and in Italian is the up raised fist over the other hand. What is the Russian equalvalent? BTW I recommend the movie.

    Hello, Miss Marina.
Would you please remove the bubble gum from your mouth and speak the Russian words MUCH slower?

I can hear you mumbling something really fast, but I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Please speak the words much slower, and clearly and distinctly enunciate every sound in the word. Please teach what the word is, before you teach how to pronounce the word.

When you concentrate on the educational value of a video, you make great videos. When your focus appears to be on lame story lines, the videos deserve being thumbed down.

You can do better than this.

you bee hanging around the bees too long
maybe if you took beeswax out of your ears
you would stop sounding and acting like a drone

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/ohiocountryboy/ Ohio Countryboy

    Hello, HeartForWords.
You’re not making sense. In what way am I sounding and acting like I have no father?

My dad taught me that if I didn’t do a job correctly the first time, I would have to make the time to do it correctly the second time.

  • http://www.hotforwords.com/members/ohiocountryboy/ Ohio Countryboy

So what does it mean to be like a drone? Who’s your daddy, little drone?

Say it again…remember the good old cyber times!!! If your ears or cheeks are hot, someone is thinking or talking about you (usually speaking ill).~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Russian traditions, superstitions and beliefs include superstitions and customs of Russians. Many of them are now inseparable parts of every day life, or simply common social etiquette, though they often have their origins in superstition. The awareness of them, and their perceived importance, depends on various factors including region and age. Some are extremely common and practiced by the vast majority of the population, while some are extremely obscure….from above link
