At the 1:45 mark you said Sappho was known as a lyricist. I thought a lyrist was someone who did the poetry for the lyre, while lyricist is a more modern term for a songwriter.
A Google search doesn’t differentiate much between lyrist and lyricist and considers them to be synonymous. If anything, it appears that lyrist is becoming obsolete.
Shouldn’t Sappho be known as a lyrist in her time, and what would now be considered a lyricist by today’s standards? It sticks in my mind that lyrist had a slightly different meaning than lyricist. (Or was a lyrist one who performed with the lyre, but not necessarily the writer of the poetry?)

1. Which video(s) did you use?
I used all of the videos going back to the “W” video.

2. Which hand position did you use to determined the longer finger?
Curled in fist with flattened fingers or straight flat hand?
I think M’s right hand does show a longer ring finger in either hand position, but the left hand is indeterminate or close to being even using either hand position.

3. Where did you get the statistics/info that it is rare to have the ring finger longer than the index finger?

Both of my hands have the ring finger longer than my index finger whether the hand is curled in a fist with fingers flat, or using a flat hand.

If indeed you are correct about the “RF>ID” being rare, then what factors besides the published works about testosterone determine this? Inherited?

I wasn’t aware of any studies on finger length, so I did a Google search to see what data was out there since you mentioned it. In the published results, they measured the actual length of the finger from the tip of the finger to where it meets the palm, rather than the eyesight measurement I used.

According to http://viewzone2.com/fingersx.html Marina should be a homosexual based upon her finger lengths. Interesting coincidence this is brought up on the lesbian topic thread.

I don’t know what factors determine this. I doubt it is hereditary, as other males in my family don’t have the finger length proportions that I do. If it were genetic, I would think toes would also correspond. Yet, Marina has typical toes, with the big toe sticking out the farthest, whereas the toe beside my big toe protrudes farthest, and the tips of my big toe and middle toe about equal. However, I had a doctor tell me once there was a link between genetic kidney abnormalities and hearing loss, so it is quite possible there is some other unidentified genetic trigger.

If there is a link between SAT scores, sexual orientation, left/right-handed, etc. and the ring finger to index finger length ratio, which is the cause and which is the indicator? Does the longer ring finger give you a higher SAT score, or does having a higher SAT scoring brain give you a longer ring finger?

2:05 was the end of the video, and didn’t show me the fingers. The 0:59 mark in the W video did have a pretty good hand display.

The other articles I read talked about measuring the fingers from the crease where it meets the palm, to the tip of the finger, and then using that measurement to calculate the ratio. This article treated finger length like you look at the back of the hand – that assumes the start point of each finger is the same. Yet it cites a Professor John Manning who in other articles talks of measuring the ring and index finger from where it meets the palm to the tip. Divide index finger length by ring finger length.

The average ratio for women is 1 and the average ratio for men in 0.98. Mine is 0.91. This is known as the {Casanova pattern}.

I never took the SAT, but did well in maths and sciences.

Marina’s ring finger does appear longer than her index finger, which for a woman seems to be unusual.

I scored it a few years ago.
On your first link, that version is pretty good. The second one with Karajan, better even though it’s incomplete. I just find that with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic’s interpretation, they have a heavier, thick sound with a bite too it compared to other recordings and performances of Beethoven’s symphonies that I’ve heard so far. I don’t know I guess it’s a matter of opinion.

He was a very prolific writer from several decades back who focused mostly on sex. He tried to understand sex from as many different angles as possible. His books include: The New Spirit, Man and Woman, Studies in the Psychology of Sex (2vols.), Fountain of Life, The Play Function of Sex, The Dance of Life among others. The heyday of sex as a social topic, an aspect of artistic expression and as a scientific pursuit was the 1930′s. Of course there were important roots further back in time. There were three people who were considered the founders of the (so-called) modern sexual ethic. Those three were Havelock Ellis, Sigmund Freud and my names sake, Bertrand Russell. One of the ideas that Ellis tried to promote was that sex was not just about procreating or glandular changes. Ellis tried to get across that sex can also be a creative act like childhood playing. One can enjoy sex much as a child enjoys playing with sand. Ellis also looked at sex from the viewpoint of different cultures. His whole life was devoted to the subject. I would enjoy hearing some of your thoughts on the subject. What are some the sources of your ideas on sex? How do you view sex as a part of the life of an individual as well as a part of a society? How do you view sex as a part of artistic creation? What relevance do you place of the biology of sex for impacting the aforementioned aspects of sex (individual behavior, society and artistic)? I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
