Homework: I suppose massage in general or ECT might have magnets involved. A modern version of this was when my girlfriend and I stuck Velcro all over our bodies. It was really embarrassing in the emergency room getting pried apart. I have a magnet of a cat on the fridge. It always gets really weird when an animal attraction turns into a fatal attraction. I have shoe inserts that are magnetized, they’re supposed to be good for you or at least keep you grounded. :grin: Magnetic Fields Wow! magnets and words! ;-)

Marina – I never do my homework, do I? I’m a really stinky student like that. But I will say that I personally have had magnet therapy before. I had a torn ACL/MCL of my right knee many years ago. I found a doctor who gave me a holistic therapy routine to rehab my knee with, and part of the process included the use of magnets for my knee.

Sorry to report it didn’t work. I wound up having to leave competitive sports because of my anxiousness to get back at it. It may have worked had I seen the therapy through to completion, but I only gave it 3 months (there was just no way that someone was going to replace my torn pieces with my Achilles tendon with surgery).

I am happy to report however that many years now since that injury – I am still able to run, sprint, jump, and play semi-competitive sports. Was it worth it? Giving up on college and my dreams? Yes – it has made me into who I am today! The stinkiest student on the hotforwords campus!

That beats millions and millions of dollars any day of the week!

It should appear instantly. The only thing I can think of that takes time to work is a new domain name. It takes a while for all the name servers to recognize the domain name.

Yes, anytime you make changes to where the domain name goes to, it forces all the domain name servers to update their logs. It will take sometime for all the records to change. So in the mean time don’t use your domain name. Just let your domain name bake for 24 hours and then you can use it. In the mean time just go to the direct url and work on your site from there. :-)

Marina used the word or something close to it: mesmerize. As for Monsieur Guillotine, his invention was intended to make beheading more humane, as losing your head to the axe could be very messy and unpleasant. People customarily tipped the axeman not to mess it up. Franklin of course was a respected scientist and the investigation of Mesmer by the committee is an early example of respected scientists doing a proper investigation of pseudo-science.

Well, another word Doctor Mesmer seems likely to have given us is ‘mesmerised’.
Or ‘mesmerized’ if you prefer the heathen US spelling. ;)
That seems to have changed its meaning slightly over the years though, as it carries the same connotations as ‘hypnotized’ these days.
Granted, a massage can make you slip into a state of contented relaxation, but not quite on the level of hypnotization as far as I know.

Evan Owen is correct that what he actually did was more akin to become the first massage therapist though.

For people that are having problems with ALT key symbols,
here is the clarification:
1. You must use the Numeric Key PAD keys, not the numbers at the top row.
2. You may need to toggle the NUM LOCK key to designate the Key Pad as numeric.
3. Do not press both keys down at the same time. The proper sequence as will all control keys is to hold the ALT down first, then punch the number on the numeric key pad, then let go of the ALT key.

Yes, I saw that earlier this morning that the emoticons were just in text and it didn’t have the images. I think that the emoticons is part of a plugin. I haven’t messed with WP in awhile. I have WP installed on one of my servers. The WP site has lots of info as well as other sites.

Ya, because I put the text there! I don’t like those comments that much… there not that user-friendly like these. But I don’t have any others, so I guess I have to stick with them.

Oh – just a bummer of a night. It was fight night tonight, and after the snorefest that was Mayweather vs Mosley, I was looking forward to watching a brawl. Paul Williams vs Kermit Cintron…The first ended just shortly into the 4th round, and not because someone got KTFO’d. They got into a clinch – Williams fell to the canvas, and Cintron fell right out of the ring onto his head, and the Doctor’s wouldn’t let him continue (even though he said he was fine and wanted too). Like – a dude can get clobbered all night long in the ring, but fall out of it, and oh – wait a minute – you might be hurt!

Bah – I’m just spitballin’ here. I’m going to bed.

My latest farting adventure!

So – it was 10 minutes before 11pm here in Minnesooooooooota, and I decided to have one last horrible cup of coffee before the day was done. So – as I am exiting Fart Headquaters, and out into the hallway of the floor that I live on – a girl at the very end of the hall that I am walking towards (elevator lobby in the middle between us) says to another girlfriend of hers – I guess – in the apartment across from her “He just farted me out of the apartment! It was gross!
To which I of course laughed out loud! she looks at me walking down the hall and then her friend (to which she was saying this to, and who was out of view at the time she said what she said) poke their heads out towards the end I am walking down, and I say “You just got fart blasted”! She says “Ewww – you’re as gross as the fart I just smelled”, and then I said “Well – there you have it – another mystery solved by your trusty hotforwords!” She was like “Whaaaaaaaaaa? What does that mean?”

I just laughed and turned into the evelvator lobby to go get one last cup of nasty coffee at the gas station.

The short answer is yes.

There are several qualifications regarding the use of the AT-user feature.
1. Each user has a Display name and an AT-name (@member)

Go to your Activity page by clicking on your name and you will see your Display name and @member name. In my case, both are the same. In your case, they are different. The @member name is the name that you signed up with. The Display name is what you are using as a nickname.

One cannot notify you by using AT-nickname (i.e. Evan Owen)
You must use the AT-member name (i.e. @red-dragon)

2. Using the @member name in a comment is called a Mention.

You can see all of the comments where your @member name has been mentioned by going to your Activity page, then clicking the @member Mentions link.

3. One is notified vie email if someone uses the @member name in a comment, presuming that the Notifications Settings have been enabled. By default, all email notifications are enabled.

[Word/Term Origin Request]: In the U.K. police vans that transport prisoners can be referred to as ‘Black Marias’. I believe this term goes back to the horse and buggy days when the police in the U.K. transported prisoners in four wheel carriages. Is this correct, and if so, where did the name ‘Black Maria’ come from? It’s probably been posted already, but the good doctor also gave us the word ‘mesmerism’ refering to a form of hypnosis.

Serious question, so for once I’ll give a serious answer. ;-)

The French took a lot of words from Latin and Celtic beginning with the “k” sound, changed them to a “sh” or “s” sound, then passed them into English. E.g. “capita” (head) morphed into “chef”, “cent” (hundred) in Latin had a “k” sound, but the French say “sent.”

“Seltic” is the French pronunciation of “Keltic,” the pronunciation used by the Celts themselves (Scots, Irish, Welsh, and Bretons.) Somehow the French way got into American speech (e.g the Boston Celtics). ( @Bob , do the English ever say “Seltic”?) But since so many of us have Celtic roots, lots of us say “Keltic” also. :smile:
