It’s Wed. Apr 14, 2:20 AM Pacific Time and I just did a quick check regarding destination 300 million views. A quick check says that the 300 million should be reached late tomorrow evening, Apr 15 somewhere between 10 PM and midnight.

And, since there was a huge jump in views yesterday most likely due to the Streamy Awards exposure, the large number of views may continue into today and tomorrow, which will move the 300 million views much closer.

I will be doing new calculations in about 8 hours on Wed at 10 AM PT and will do them again on Wed at 11 PM.

Of course you guys realize that if everyone were to watch ten videos right now, we could reach 300 million in a few minutes. :grin:

More than twice the pics. There are now two columns of 4 pics or a total of 8 pics.

The Home page counter shows 299,xxx,xxx because Marina actually did pass the 300 million mark about a month and a half ago or so, but YouTube removed 6 million of her views from the total count bringing the count to 294 million when we started counting about a month ago. I presume that the counter will start reflecting the correct count once the count passes 300 million. So, this event will be anticlimatic for Marina and for the rest of us, we like seeing counts moving over all those zeroes.

By the way, I am a proud veteran who served this country honorably. I received many awards and have my photo and writeup on page 3 of the Honolulu Star Bulletin. What year? Oh, aren’t you the sly one to ask. Nooooo, it wasn’t 1802.

That’s just how the counter works. All is good.

Captain, here is the deal in simplified layman’s language.
Keep in mind, there is a ton more to tell.
No, there is no corruption or defect as such.

First, one has to know how things work, and then take the exceptions into consideration.

First, the YT views data is made public in two ways.
1. YT’s own pages (in other words user channel page, Honors pages, and so on)
2. API code which grabs the views from the back end, which requires authorization via the user’s authentication. The HOME page counter is a private individual’s product that grabs the data from YT backend via Marina’s authentication similar to Twitter OAuth.

Second, you have to understand how the data is made public.
The views are not instantaneously displayed. They are displayed on a rate bases such as daily, hourly, ever other hour, etc.
The Total views on the YT channel are updated “Once per Day”.
The individual video views are update every hour or more.
How do I know this? Cause I track it.
Remember, there is YT aggregate views on the Channel calle Total Upload views, and there are individual video views which one can add up. I monitor both and they are the same, but obviously, not at the same time, again because of the update cycle.

Typically, the backend count is more up to date since a developer can grab the data which is more recent that the public data that I am aggregating. I don’t have access to the backend, so my aggregate count will be anywhere from a few thousand off to as much as 50k views at an given time. Again, that has to do with the update cycle.

Now, the author of the Home counter recommends that if one were to get live data every hour lets say, and if one has a ton of videos, then it would consume a lot of time and bandwidth to update in real time. It is just not practical for that many videos. So, the author of the counter grabs the data once a day and saves it to his site. The, the animated counter projects forward at the known rate of views such as 12,000 view per hour for example.

The counter then reset after 12 hours or whatever has been programmed and the counter starts again from the last known count. Then, around 2 AM, the count is updated from YT. The counter just reset within the last 2 hours or so.

So, the Home counter is actually updated only once a day, but is animated to show the actual rate of views.

To make things more complex, 6 million views were removed that are no longer part of the count. Marina had already passed 300 million a month ago.

Anyway, the counter is working again, and the reason it didn’t was because 6 million views were removed. Now, that the views are approaching 300 million again, the counter is catching up.

If you want to know the static views at any given time, click the BIO link above and look near the book. That count is updated once a day via the author’s widget code.

Take note.
The difference in counts is due to UPDATE period differences.

My count right now is 400K more than YT’s 6 AM count.
The difference between my count and the BIO pg count is 154,946 or about 1/2 a DAY’s views.

1. Keep in mind, I read PUBLIC data which is always behind in count.

Forget about the browser tweaks as you are dealing with stuff after the horse left the barn. Too late since you have been logged already by their servers or routers.
