Yes, you work very hard at making H4W a great success !!, the cost however is in spending your life’s energy and life’s time in doing so. You’ve become a celebrity in many respects, but I suspect that the money isn’t quite what feels commensurate with your time/energy invested, so you may be famous but not rich yet, and that can feel like being unappreciated. But then if you take a vacation, wherever you go, there you are. So if your inner-self isn’t satisfied with the inner-self, location changes won’t solve the problem. Being a high-achiever, you have those inner pushes driving you on to do more.
Zen has some answers: that of in being ‘warmly OK’ with things ‘as they are’ and having no inner ‘emotional pushes’ that are pushing on you to want things to be different. (which goes at odds with being a high-achiever, so it is quite a task to practice the art of ‘being surrendered’.)
Personally for a number of years I was very OK with things as they were ! Leaky roof and all !! Lately I’ve taken on a big project and now wonder why did I feel the inner push to want to do this endeavour. It leaves me wondering about my own inner OK’ness level in regards to the future as history.
Perhaps you are feeling a bit of the ‘tug of history’ too, in ‘what we leave behind when we are gone from this world, is how others who never knew us up close, will think about us’. I’d say you’ve left a great legacy !, and a wonderfully fearless personality interaction !, albeit mostly in a monologue fashion in your videos. Tho, based on ‘Bitch Slap’ I’d say, when you feel challenged or vulnerable you compensate by being dominant. As a suggestion, try being ‘surrendered’ instead of reacting and being dominant. ‘Surrendered’ meaning ‘warmly OK with things as they appear to be’. Your own ‘power’ will remain steadfast in the situation and playing the game of domination won’t be necessary for any emotional reasons. I suggest this for in a social situation, between women for example. Not when you’re in a physical confrontation danger situation, then you need to do what your instincts tell you, and playing the dominance game is a highly successful strategy (as you’ve learned).
As far as nice things I can do when you’re PMS’ing, or at any other time when you’ve had a tough day and want to put your feet up and not have demands made on you, giving my attention to doing small things for you is a good start. Knowing you well is the next level in getting inspirations of what will bring a song into your heart and wings to your tired feet, metaphorically speaking.

I too hope this is all untrue. The problem with suing a journalist in the USA is the 1st amendment right to free speech, but this appears to have been done in Russia – so I have no idea what the laws are there, today.

Usually if a journalist is following up a story, and not making a false, blanket statement about someone, then it’s protected under free speech laws here in the United States, but it’s a slippery slope (not one you’d want to be involved in with a scandal of this magnitude).

On the main site, which is where you are now reading this comment, you can reply to any individual. and conversations are threaded.

In the Forum, even though the conversations are not threaded, one can still have some decent conversations going by using the “AT” symbol. If you want to address someone over on the Forum, just start the conversation with @username and then add your comments. It’s true that there won’t be any notifications as there is with threaded comments, but one can look at the Forum index periodically and scan the latest topics date and time to see what has changed.

I have noticed over time that most people on this site are not interested in any long discussions. Why? It’s because of the nature of the site which is geared to visitors that are video oriented by having watched a video lesson. Then, most people move on. On the Forum you can see what is popular as the 20+ topics stay on the main index page and other topics fade into secondary page.

Marina is constantly looking into upgrading this site with new applications. Just a few weeks ago, she tested out a new posting system and a few months ago, she had tried a very nice application which still had some bugs in it. Stay tuned for more changes to come in the future.

You are correct, the site I am active with is a forum and the professor moderator would like to keep everything sequential, but I prefer responding to individual posts. Someone has made threads for subtopics on the forum, but I am unfamiliar with this.

It’s relatively easy to add a forum of one’s choosing to any site. There are many software packages to chose from. The problem where one can run into problems is if one desires to keep features from an older type forum. If one starts off with a clean slate, then it is relatively easy. The problem that Marina had converting over to a new application was trying to import the current users into the new user’s database.

The other consideration is the base platform. If one is using WordPress as the base, then there are many applications to chose from that can be integrated. If one is using another platform or a custom built site, then it may get a little more involved.

The other choice is to utilize one of the hundreds of many public forums that can either be integrated into one’s own site or used as an auxiliary forum.

Here is just one example of of a forum software package. Even though they have a free plan, in most cases, one would want the better features which would involve a monthly fee.

For many years now, Mr. Danny Kaye, who has been my particular idol since childbirth, has been doing a routine about the great Russian director Stanislavsky and the secret of success in the acting profession, and I thought it would be interesting to steal his idea and to adapt it to the field of mathematics. Yes, the counter should reflect the correct numbers once the bug is fixed. The bug might be on YouTube’s end or it might be with the counter itself. YouTube has / is making a lot of changes to their layout and database infrastructure which means that the counter is not able to synchronize properly.

The correct upload video views is shown on the
http://youtube.com/hotforwords profile page which is:
YT Total Upload Views: 292,261,408
The counter here shows: 299,753,515

Also, compare your YT and web site counter. Your counter is also off. Last week or before the counts were synchronized, so it appears that it may be more likely to be a YouTube issue.

My Counter dosen’t seem to be off because it matches my Youtube’s Account Number. And That Counter has nothing to do if Youtube’s views are off ;-) , Marina got the counter from http://YTstats.com. I would know this because I had to get the HTML myself. This counter is actually very INACCURATE because the counts are incrementing every like .4 seconds, and i highly dought that Marina gets a view every .4 seconds. It’s a cool feature to have, but is very inaccurate. :smile:

First, if you look at TubeMogul, the avg daily views are 300K.
300k/24 = 12,500 views/hr / 60 = 208 views / min / 60 = 3.5 views / sec. So, you are right, she does not get 2.5 views per second,
but more. :razz:

The counter is developed by this site http://www.myytstats.com/
And if you read the developers information on the counter you will see that the counter can be synchronized directly via the YT API or if one has a ton of videos like Marina, the counter can be synchronized from the developer’s database once a day.

In fact, if you look at the static counter on the BIO link above, you will see the same error. The errors has nothing to do with the counter, but from where the counter gets it’s data when the counter gets synchronized, which can either be once a day, or every few hours. As I said before, the counters – yours and Marina’s were synchronized perfectly to the YT profile counter a few weeks back.

The most likely error has to do with YT making changes which means that the developer may need to make some changes as well to get the counts synchronized.

I just added up the actual counts of your videos.
You have 35 videos where the views add up to 42,024 views.
Your profile page shows 36,875 views which gets updated typically every 2-4 hours, but for some sites with fewer videos it can take 6 hours or even weeks for updates to occur.

That means your profile count is lagging by 5,149 views.
I don’t know how often your YT profile gets updated, but you can check in a few hours and compare it to what I just documented here.

P.S.
At this very moment and for the last few hours, YT is doing maintenance and they have stopped updating counts. So, one reason that your profile is lagging right now is because YT has stopped updating channel data for the last few hours including subs, and video views.

well, I don’t follow on my Youtube channel’s “total uploaded views” because it is crap and dosent validate. When I click “Account” it gives me the total views that is 100% Accurate. It says 41, 890. My Counter is maybe like 30 off from that number. Marina’s is like 200,000 off. SO i honestly think Its not Youtube’s Fault as Much as it is http://ytstats.com because by counter’s views have not been affected. :|

P.S I think TubeMogul in not 100% Accurate Either because Marina Does not get 300K a day EXACTLY. I have noticed that some videos that marina has uploaded don’t get that many views as the other. If you didn’t notice, Marina’s PMS is currently at 46,860 views. That is EXTREMELY low, and I suppose that count may not be accurate, but Its not like its really 400,000, but it is saying 46,860. Its somewhere around there, so today, she might of gotten only like 100k

AND, i read the odometer HTML, and the counter crements after a certain amount of milleseconds, not when marina gets a view. The only time the counter changes is when the page is reloaded. :grin:

The more commonly used a word is, the more likely it is that it will have new uses put to it and each new use lengthens the dictionary entry. Thus simple words will naturally increase in use and whereas, generally speaking, complicated ones will not.

Chase, you are confusing a lot of issues.
Just a heads up. I wrote my own program and do my own number crunching and have been doing it for over a year, so I know when YT is diddling with their stuff and things are messed up.

First, how could you say that you have a 100% accurate count of 41, 890 views when an hour earlier I told you that I actually added up all of your 35 videos views (I used Excel copy+paste) which came to 42,024 views. How can your views be less? The answer is because the the various places one picks up the numbers are NOT real time. They are snapshots. Each of the different places will have a different snapshot rate. For example, the views on the Channel Honors pages are typically one day behind.

When you say TubeMogul is not 100% accurate, you are not understanding how things work. Everyone gets the data from the same place. The difference is WHEN one takes the snapshot. TubeMogul used to take their daily snapshot after midnight, but now it is around 2:30 – 3:20 AM and for the graph over there in the lower right, it is a one time daily snapshot. So, at appx 2:30 AM, Tube Mogul is 100% accurate which happens to coincide with my own data capture. As time goes by, the video views actually continue to advance, but TM won’t update until 24 hours later.
And, I didn’t say 300K views, I said; “avg daily views”

Regarding the odometer, you are correct, it does NOT advance when there is a view. The counter is a dynamic simulator which advances based on a rate-of-views which I said is and has been averaging at 3.5 view per second.

Forget the odometer for a moment. Do you have a static counter like Marina has on her BIO page?

Go click the BIO link above, and then scroll down to where the image of the book is.
Do you see the 299,545,593 views?
The YT profile shows 292,261,408 views.
Both views are snapshots taken at different times.
There would be no problem and we would not be having this discussion if the difference were equal to one days worth of views or an average of 300K. Right?
But, the difference is 7 million views which is equivalent to 23 days of views. That is a huge error which means that Kenny is no longer picking up the correct data from YT.

That means, to answer you original question, yes, we will see 300,000,000 views in appx 23 days based on the correct views on the HFW channel page. Those views will always lag as do the views coming from Kenny because they are periodic snapshots. But, the lag should NOT be 7 million views which is what the counter shows on the Home page. Which means Kenny has some work to do to catch up with the changes that YT has done.

By the way, TubeMogul was also off by a huge amount, but those folks over there already fixed the code a few weeks back. You do know where to find the total views on TubeMogul, right?

As of right now: HFW TubeMogul: 291,937,032 views
As of right now: HFW YT Channel: 292,261,408 views
Notice that the difference is 324,376 or appx one days’s worth of views which is legitimate because the TM update is slower.
Kenny’s STATIC counter is 299,xxx,xxx or 7 million into the future which is bogus because he is not grabbing the data correctly.

Chase, the problem that I have with the Flash tabs is the colors for one. Here is a pic worth some hundred words.

I threw this together and my tabs are bogus looking. But look at the difference in my text versus your text. What throws it off is that you are using a white or light glow or drop shadow which gives the text a weird look.

The first tab is yours, and the second and third one is mine. See the difference?

That can either be done in Flash or JavaScript. There are plenty of free JS scripts on the net that do that. Flash might would work just as well if you have the Flash development tools.

No, the third button has the same issues.
Where the first tab is of high contrast colors (red, green) which is fine, but the shadow is white which I think is trying to present a glow effect, but it’s not working for me.

In the third tab, the text and the background are both red, so you lose the contrast of the text against the background. The white drop shadow is annoying in the sense it does not define the letters. In other words, it almost has that crayon effect. Try using a darker color for the drop shadow or glow. Experiment with widening the glow a tiny bit.

With simple HTML you won’t be able to do any fancy dynamic effects. Of course if you are adapt at using CSS, then you can get some nice effects using just HTML and CSS, but greater choices and possibilities are had by using Javascript or Flash.

I’m using Windows, but the OS shouldn’t be the issue. I think you meant to ask what browser I’m using which is FireFox, but looked at your site using MSIE.

The three major tabs all stay in position and will flash white/red when the mouse is over the tab. Are the tabs supposed to move up and down?

I think you of the best things you can do is just be quietly understanding. Do as they ask without question or confrontation. I think as they feel better they appreciate that.

I see that the tabs are now moved higher above the black navigation area. The tabs are located in a section with a gray background and there is a white gap or separation between the tabs area and the black navigation section. To me, the tabs section bothers me as it does not look professional and looks amateurish, especially blinking tabs.

Marina reads all of the comments on this site so you can be sure that your suggestion about the membership or any other suggestions that you make will be read, so you are able to reach her just as well. But keep in mind, your best intentions and biases is no guarantee that Marina will be impressed. If she is impressed with your suggestions or she likes what you have to offer, trust me, Marina will let you know. But, don’t automatically assume that an un-answered suggestion means a negative response. Marina is also extremely busy as you can read in the Russian news article.

Keep in mind, Marina is a geek who understands technology very well and especially in the context of what she is trying to accomplish. A few months back, Marina implemented a new commenting system that also included a different membership registration. I don’t remember the application’s name, but it was awesome and many of us got to try it out for about an hour. The problem was that the new system had some bugs and transferring a huge membership databases was not automated yet.

Marina is constantly looking for new applications and ideas. So, present them here and when she has time or something catches her fancy, she will let you know if it meets her requirements.

Chase, look at examples of other web site or templates of sites like Blogger or WordPress. It’ll give you some ideas.

If it were me, I might experiment putting a huge (width of page) GIF animation of Gunju either as a composite or one scene of Gunju running across the page.

A single GIF might be too large in size, but you can break up a static image the width of the page and insert a smaller GIF in the middle.

If I suddenly notice I’m getting growled at a lot more than usual for no seemingly logical reason, that’s when I typically ask if that perfectly natural temporary chemical overbalance is around, and if so just go out of the way not to do any feather ruffling.

If someone in my close care isn’t feeling well I’m typically pretty on-top-of-it no matter what the source because I tend to notice when those close to me aren’t acting ‘normal’ – so it’s never been a big deal with any of the girls I’ve dated.

Some seem to experience it more than others. And depending on their personalities and initial behavioral baseline, it can amplify or suppress other elements of their personality just like anything else that affects the biochemical control with the human mind responsible for emotion.

But yes, it is real, to different severity, so one must take that into account before taking any outbursts of grumpiness personally.

If I new the true cure for PMS I’d be a rich man, but I presume the best solution in the meantime is a combination of the medicine, avoiding things that stress you out if possible, and finding some brilliant source of distraction/entertainment to keep your mind engaged.

Or you could always just make it your word of the week and make a video post about it.

While I appreciate your replies, I think there is a bit more to it. As P-Karl notes, it was not uncommon prior to 1860 to see the phrase “United States are”. That date also is close to another event in US history — the unpleasantness between the states.

Before the matter was (in most people’s minds) settled in 1865, the Doctrine of Disunion was asserted by such distinguished persons as John Adams and Henry Clay. On the other side, prominent persons such as Andrew Jackson believed that the Union was indivisible, and military force was authorized to keep it together.

Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address makes an empassioned plea for keeping the Union whole. Jefferson Davis’ Inaugural Address defends the rights of the states, including a right to withdraw from Union without cohersion. Neither mentions slavery (except to the extent that Davis discussed general private property rights).

By the time that the Pledge of Allegiance was adopted, the phrase “One Nation . . . indivisible . . .” was considered unremarkable. In most places (certain parts of Vermont apparently excepted) it generally still is considered an unremarkable statement.

Accordingly, whether you say “United States are” or “United States is” is a statement of fairly important political belief. There is significant history in deciding which phrase is correct.

Safety would say, go and walk the dog to the pub when your PMS hits hard however, and providing both in love, would feed you chocolate few days before. Run a hot bath with rose pettles, candles and mellow sounds of whale music. Hot water bottle for you to hug while watching your favourite films. Cook you up something special followed by chocolate desert. Flowers and maybe tickets to a show for when feeling back to non PMS thingy. Offer hugs, kisses and massage with out expectations. Have sleeping bag at the ready to crash on sofa. Make certain my listening ears are 100%, detached from emotions so as not be offended. Ice pack for possible panda eyes, also box for loins to protect my troops. Otherwise ear plugs and an updated will in place letting friends and family know how much I love them.
