What will the word of 2010 be?

The 2009 Word of the Year, according to the New Oxford English Dictionary was  unfriend, which seems befitting as 2009 really wasn’t such a great year and weaning yourself of some of the excess fat/friends seemed like a good idea!

2008′s word was hypermiling, where you tried to get the most gas mileage out of your car.. and with gas prices through the roof, that word also seemed somewhat appropriate.

2007′s word was bacn, which was an odd choice, though I love the bacn movement as they sent me a box of bacon once, 2006′s was “carbon neutral“, which seems like two words, but hey, and 2005′s was podcasting.

WELL….  2010 is upon us!  I’m optimistic that the “tens” will be better than the “aughts“… or the “naughts“.. or the “naughties“.. whatever they were called!  Perhaps if we had named the darn decade it would have made something of itself!

A friend of mine just  posed the question to me, and I’d like to hear your thoughts.  What do you think the word of 2010 will be?  Write it in the comments below and I’ll pick a winner and make a video about it.

A few hundred years ago, the Americans had had enough of the King, awoke, and created this nation by writing and implementing the Deceleration of Independence. But they erred by not fully separating the Church and the State (e.g., they were agnostic rather than atheistic and so had words referring to God in the Deceleration of Independence) with consequent ideas of the welfare state (e.g., Thomas Jefferson on Public Education). I hope that in the near future, there is another such “revolution” that ends without the errors of the first revolution. Whether such an event happens in 2010 or later, words for such an event could be: The Awakening/Rousing of the Sleeping Giant. Politicians, both Republicans and Democrats, have been running amok at an increasing pace enslaving productive, free men — so it is time to say “Enough Already”.

  • http://www.GoForThisWorld.com Hs4Mm

“W00t!” would be good word to describe/capture the event that I hope will happen!

A possible word for 2010 could be Interface,
and if you have a lisp, it might be Interfaith.

Those two words have different definitions, but if you look at the word Interfaith meaning cooperative and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions, then if you reduce the definition of religion as a set of beliefs, then Interfaith may happen at the Interface level such as Twitter, FaceBook and Google Wave.

User interfaces have been pretty pedestrian and the iPhone made some innovative changes and as Google Wave develops, we may just see this as the year of the Interfaice

    Dear Marina,
I think the past decade were partly called the “Ohs.” I’d heard years described as “twenty-oh-one,” twenty-oh-two,” and on up to “twenty-oh-nine.” This year is just called “twenty-ten.”
A century ago, the word “aught” was commonly used. For example, 1906 was called “nineteen-aught-six.”
Part of this decade might partly be called the “teens”, from “twenty-thirteen to twenty-nineteen.” No doubt it will be followed by the sharp vision year, “twenty-twenty.” Of course, that decade will be called “the twenties.”
What will be the word for 2010? This year, the Winter Olympics will take place in Vancouver, and World Cup Soccer will be in South Africa. The first Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held inh Singapore. There will be more meetings of the G8, the G20, and the Climate Change meetings where small countries demand more money from out of the wealthy countries. Will terrorists attack the international games? There usually are violent demonstrations at international economic meetings. Despite any efforts to create good will, bad people cause terror.
The word for 2010 might be “hope.” As in hope for the best, but don’t be surprised at the worst.
As a video, the word [hope] might be a useful and needed one. :!:

Once again, you are correct, leonard! Our “society” is so hell-bent on “accepting” to the point of putting peoples lives at risk to make absolutely, positively, 100% sure we don’t appear “non-accepting”. It sure would be nice if, just one time, when we extended our hand in friendship; the people we extended to didn’t check to see if there was a check in said hand and then didn’t ignore us/fire off missles/try to kill us. Ahhh, but the world loves our “society” since last January. I wonder if the world can vote?

Almost forgot. Here is one for for The Blonde:
Norman and his wife live in Calgary. One winter morning while listening to
the radio, they hear the announcer say, “We are going to have 8 to 10
centimeters of snow today. You must park your car on the even numbered side
of the street, so the snowplow can get through.” Norman’s wife goes out and
    moves her car.
A week later while they are eating breakfast, the radio announcer says, “We
are expecting 10 to 12 centimeters of snow today. You must park your car on
the odd numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through.”
Norman’s wife goes out and moves her car again.
The next week they are having breakfast again, when the radio announcer
says, “We are expecting 12 to 14 centimeters of snow today. You must
park…” then the electric power goes out. Norman’s wife is very upset, and
with a worried look on her face she says, “Honey, I don’t know what to do.
Which side of the street do I need to park on so the plow can get through?”
With the love and understanding in his voice like all of us men who are
married to Blondes exhibit, Norman says, “Why don’t you just leave it in the
    garage this time?”

    Marina,
Hey, I should win a date with you today!
This should be the phrase for this year and certainly last year for different reasons. It is an Austalian phrase that can mean something good or bad! Bad for last year and positive hopes for 2010! You would say, “what a wicked pisser….2009 was! When somebody tells me something good or I am excited, I would say something like, “wow, that’s awesome what a wicked pisser”! Maybe you can use this as an unusual phrase for one of your videos.
