Here’s some insight into Marina Orlova

The video is of Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people (like MO’s parents and grandparents) were affected by the German invasion during World War II.

Simonova’s art gets to the soul of why MO is the way she is…and always will be…whether we “get it” or not.

This will then show you the ranking of Marina, and you should vote for the first photo of Marina which will have the most votes.

Watching the serious and focused look on Kseniya Simonova’s face as she worked reminded me of your creative focus and results. You two are the kind of women who carried ammunition through the horror of Stalingrad and welded T-34′s in the Urals.

Simonova’s “story” of Russia, love, innocence, betrayal, trust and hope for a better future has to be as much a part of what makes you weirdly Russian… as my being raised in the wild west of Wyoming has made me….weird :-)

After seeing your four poster bed (in a recent twit photo) I’ve been doing a character study of Cassandra, seducing the Quantum Pilot Romulus Leo home with an erotic dance of consciousness (as she’s suspended in the bed’s four dimensions). This is the dance of life, love and transformation which Simonova’s art also showed. I see Cassandra now as both a person and, somehow, as the embodiment of Earth consciousness…just as the women in Simonova’s art were both individuals and “Mother Russia.”

I agree with you about the negative aspect of the down voting, but if they weren’t going to use it then why is it there?

that’s the problem with nostalgia. on an individual level such retroflection tends to be revisionist and biased by self indulgence. on a social level it is a reconstructed past of truths, lies and myths that provides justification and motive for indefensible actions. the past must be evaluated with minimal bias to avoid the mistake of serving the needs of personal and nationalistic expectations.

in this circumstance i expect its use was to romanticize marina and give an imagined sense of insight into her ethnic identity.

although the sand art thing provided me a moment of distraction it failed to provide any significant understanding or appreciation into the historical period and place, let alone marina. but maybe i’m missing something.

Have you noticed any significant change in the number of ratings, since you started to add the “RATE 5 stars” type annotations?
That would give you a fair idea of how many votes you could get by annotation notifications alone.
But I suggest you insert the annotation towards the end of the video, because most people tend to forget things. :-)

I think what the sand painting technique elicited from me, relative to the Russian experience of the 20th Century, was the impermanence of the blowing sands and the indomitable (Russian) human will to over come the hardships (that continue to this day, making MO’s artistic experience as a Russian woman in California all the more authentic and noteworthy)

Reason is that there used to be 46 people – period – and if there more than 100 people now, and 100 per page, well, you can take it from there.

Yes, clicking on the HOT link now, will do a different sort, which has Marina on page1. Things are and will be changing.

I woke up this morning and resolved that I would not complain about a single thing today. Y’know, take the world like it is and flow with it.

So, I won’t complain about how the election loads on the page at WIRED.COM. My complaint, or the complaint I would have had if I wasn’t on this self-administered compliance experiment was that Marina’s pic took a long ass time to appear. I’m talking like 10 minutes, which is an eternity for a web surfer. I knew her pic was going to be loaded because I had already voted previously. But, I’m not complaining.

Yeah, a while back I posted a video in a reply to someone’s comment (you know, the usual shit I put in my comments) and maybe a lesson or two later they posted that same video and said “Hey, look what I ran across on Youtube.” And then some people replied to them, “hey, that’s a great find!” I’ve seen it happen a few times to me but I’m pretty sure I’ve done the same thing without knowing it. As far as it goes to show how well we read, well there is quite a few people here commenting so posting the same material is bound to happen. There are “clicks” here too, people who only talk and respond to certain people and stay within their group that they feel they have a rapport with. So I wouldn’t worry about Rijk. ;-)
