I think it is a replacement of the second syllable, which sounds like a word, and replacing it with another word that has the same meaning: ie "dick" and "dong." However, due to phoenetics, the "g" sound in the word was replaced by a "k" sound, because I don't think there are many words in the English language that have a hard g followed by a vowel.
