    Hi!

Getting a case of Neuro Sleep.

The delivery sounds like a illness.

Remember WOW upside down is MOM.

    I got it right!

Marina, why do you talk about it in past tense “it was a deadly weapon…..” They do still exist don’t they?

  • wetsuit5

    Serious question Marina.

One of the references I found for buss was pipe.
I’m wondering if buss really means conveyance?
Conveyance of shot out of a gun.
Conveyance of many people in a vehicle.
Conveyance of electricity (central buss)(buss fuses)

    Congratulations to dsxmachina for winning.

    Good one wetsuit5,
I was struggling with the connection of going from pipe to bus and gun. Conveyance sounds like the perfect hook to connect these ideas. I’m familiar with buss fuses and then there is also computer bus transferring data.

  • freebird

It IS going to be hard to come up with a word that’s hard to find the answer to. Maybe… as an idea… GUESS THE PHRASE GAME.

It might take a little longer to find… like an extra 15 minutes!

It doesn’t work for the conveyance of people.
Bus, as in public service vehicle, is a contraction of “omnibus” which is Latin for “to, at, by, with or from everyone”, and which was deemed an appropriate name for a vehicle which was designed to carry everyone to and from everywhere, with everyone else, at all times of the day, by road.

    Pretty cool facts, Marina :)

People will obviously make jokes the only reason to watch is your good looks… But I appreciate that you can actually learn interesting facts when you come here, or watch your videos.

It amazes me how much the English language is based on context (meaning) versus the actual words.

It is said, English is the hardest language on the planet to learn because of this fact…

All this talk about shooting reminds me of a story about Johnny who was about to re-enter the outside world after having been taken care of by a sanitarium.

The doctor asked Johnny, “What will you do when you get out?”
Well, said Johnny, “First I’m going to get myself a girlfriend.”

“Then what will you do?”, asked the doctor.
I’m going to take her into the forest.

And then what are you going to do?
I’m going to take her panties off.

“Really?” gasped the doctor. “What will you do next?”
I’m going to take out the rubber band out of the panties and start shooting people in the ass with it.

  • seesixcm6

    Dear Marina,
I also had the right answer of blunderbuss, but I’m glad you’re sending the case of Neurosleep to someone else.
For your homework, today’s shotgun is the equivalent to the old blunderbuss. Shotguns are made in smaller calibers for women, A .410 gauge is relatively small. A pump-action shotgun would give you the ability to fire several shells. Skeet shooting is more difficult with smaller gauge shotguns, but experts do well with enough training and practice.
A shotgun would be a good device for your collection of firearms.

    @BeeVee14

I think you and @leonard finally got down to what we’re really talking about in this lesson.

WOW! (Now what would make marina say that?)

The dialog on HFW often takes place on two levels and this thread is no exception. There is the literal discussion about the word and its meaning and then there is the double entendre — the inuendo behind the literal meaning. It’s a theme with Marina — always a sexual overtone or inference to underscore the motto “Intelligence is sexy”.

Guns are phallic symbols. Always have been, always will be. It tells you something about the back-and-forth between @Alax and @originalistrick. Some are comfortable with guns and some aren’t. Very perceptive @originalistrick, the reference to “reading between the lines” That’s the key to HFW.

SOLVE WITHIN MINUTES? I could have gone until Social Security goes broke and still not of have uh, blundered into the answer.

BTW, you didn’t mention that the blunderbuss was used with shot (vs. bullets) and a shorter barrel would allow for a wider spread of shot and the more likelyhood of one or more pellets hitting the target. Oh, well, I’ll still blow you a buss.

    Hello Sweet Marina,

I have a general suggestion. Could you teach us some Russian words in some of your lessons or the russian equivilant of the English word your teaching in that episode.

In addtion have you considered teaching some words for on going news or worldwide events like The Tour De France, world cup soccer, and the Olympics(Vancover 2010) etc. and perhaps some words from the area these events are hosted.

    Your a great diplomat Marina.

What to do today, the only plan activity I got is to go up the road to the chicken farm and buy some fresh egg.

Maybe I’ll have a couple of Lemon Drops until it time for the B-day cake? ;-)

What WordPress needs is a Peter-Meter. When the number of comments per hour (as it has this morning) peters out (or perhaps the hits per hour), WP would E-mail M so that she would know it is time to post the new lesson.

Well, I am going to wash the breakfast dishes and then go outside to wash the buggy, which has accumulated two week’s worth of road crudola. Now you know nothin’s happening.

 In reality, a fib is nothing more than a sugar coated lie. This reminds me of the story of a dad telling his teen age daughter she can’t go out on a date on a week night. She goes out on a date anyway and her dad confronts her when she comes home. In her defense, she claims it was only a semi date because there was another couple with them. She claims it did not count as a real date. She got busted on two counts. 1-She went on a date against her dads wishes. 2-She tried to lie her way out of it when she got home. For punishment, she was grounded for two weeks and had to do yard work during the two weeks.

I remember reading that almost anything could be used for shot in these, in a pinch. The wide bore allows coins, beads, chain links, broken glass, marbles, hairpins, nails, and even things like tableware, etc. to be stuffed in and fired at an attacker if need be. At close range, one thing is as good as another I suppose.

why do kids in northern california say the word [hella]? i’m from norcal and i don’t even know. but i do remember around second grade (’98) saying the word hecka, and it evolved into [hella] in 3rd grade. the wierd thing is i don’t remember picking up the word from someone else, its like i was born with the word imbeded in my vocabulary. and everyone i know that was a ’90′s kid in norcal says the same thing. please investigate [hella]!

I saw Anthony Soprano on THE SOPRANOS getting a modified M-16 rifle for his birthday. He chopped down a sapling by shooting at in in automatci fire. Wish I had a cool gun like that to shoot at my big mouthed punk neighbors!!

so, let me get this straight. you “met jesus christ“, you’re obviously a very religious man and say things like,

Wish I had a cool gun like that to shoot at my big mouthed punk neighbors!!

hm. i somehow had this thought … you know … that religion was about … i don’t know … peace? must’ve been wrong.

You can use it this way!

I studied about Samson and the Book of Judges and David who killed Golaith. I guess my piggie friends can’t screw with my head and then hide behind my religion. I will say that God got vengeance on the MSU chem department in 1992 when the government took away the multi-billion supercolliding cyclotron under construction in Monroe, MI in 1992. and it hurt my PChem prof enemies there. As one Dr. Eick had boasted that the Monroe, MI supercollider was going to be their SECOND SUPERCOLLIDER!!! Someone out there thinks he is talking to a little kid!! the article about the loss of the Monroe, MI supercollider was in TIME magazine in 1992! I laughed at that for a long while!!

  • http://www.tony-bernhoffer-photography.com tonyb

I joined the army at 17. I Ieft home on september 11, 1977. Another motif or thread-9/11/77 (army)-9/11/94 (mom lost home to the bank)/ 9/11/2001 (WTC destroyed!) God hates america as bad as I do!!!
The Sopranos is set in New Jesey. ft. Dix where I did my Basic was in New Jersey. they joked in the backyard about shooting deer with the m-16 rife. and when we were riding to guard duty at Ft. Dix, riding in an army vban at night one of the Drill Sargaents joked about wanting to shoot deer with an M-16. Sort of like a large national park in places!!
God seems to get even for me on my foes. VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY SAYS THE LORD!!!

  • beevee14

Read your link where you stated that you were ‘ostracized’ by the church. You have also stated that on this site and I was wondering why. Is it official. You sound like your German so were you excommunicated or just shunned by the place where you worship? :???:

    BTW
hm. i somehow had this thought … you know … that religion was about … i don’t know … peace? must’ve been wrong.

Yes, you are. Ever heard of jihad? :???: :?:

(File under: “I Should Really Know Better Than to Jump In Here”)

tonyb, your Christianity sure is different from my Christianity.

  • http://www.tony-bernhoffer-photography.com tonyb

Jesus Christ got mad when he took a rod and ran the moneychangers out ofr the Temple of God in Jerusalem, when I did study the Book of Judges and found Holy War by accident in the Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible. I guess I seen on PBS that Jihad would be a Holy War but in another language. The antigovernment militias did not want me even when a PhD psychologist suggested I look into one. God gave Samson superhuman stength to destroy his enemies. And Samson got his strength by teh Spirit of God. the government, politicians or the chemistry profession must see my having a religious faith in God and Jesus Christ to be an obstacle to their trying to informally change my life and direction in life.

  • beevee14

Why do you hate America? Did something happen in the Army that made you this way? If you could live somewhere else, where would it be? :?:

  • beevee14

Yeah, but it doesn’t make me a bad person! ;-)

  • originalistrick

You KNOW I didn’t mean that – nasty can be good. Yepper.

    It’s not a blunderbuss; it’s a picture of a blunderbuss.

  • http://www.tony-bernhoffer-photography.com tonyb

I even leared about the boy David killing the giant Goliath with a slingshot in my catholic catechism class in grade school. And the same was true of Samson killing a thousand Phillistine with the jawbone of an ass! I am sure Baptists have studied this in sunday school as well!

  • http://www.tony-bernhoffer-photography.com tonyb

I am jus the kind of guy that has learned not to care what others think of me. I heard once that there are 2000 different denominations of christianity in america!!
Or like in the Ted Turner movie about the Civil War-THEY PRAYED TO THE SAME GOD, BELIEVED IN THE SAME BIBLE BUT KILLED EACH OTHER IN WAR!

  • http://www.tony-bernhoffer-photography.com tonyb

I am looking into that matter. I do listen to shortwave radiio and watch The Travel Channel. IN 1993 I had written to 10 foreign embassies in Washington DC requesting political assylum. Only New Zealand, Canada and Cuba would send me a Visa application. And they did not work out and I am still here. Maybe for the sake of my poor old mom in God’s scheme of things.

  • http://www.tony-bernhoffer-photography.com tonyb

Ever hear about the Hatfields and the McCoys? Nothing like a little friendly fueding with neigbors like in the hillbillies and the hills of kentucky. but mom won’t let me keep a gun in the house. Didn’t those hillbillies shoot at each other with shotguns? That is so american?

I knew an army mess sargaent in 1978 who sang and played this song on his 12 string guitar. I sang and played Bob Dylan music from high school and I reckoned if they played acid rock on their personal stereos what is so objectionable about Bob Dylan?
