We were able to seal off the entry with a tight row of steel stakes sunk 18" into the ground (so they couldn't easily burrow underneath) and a big flagstone to cover the crack in the slab from the outside. They found somewhere else to live. So far, so good. No casualties. It all changes over time, though. The floor continues to heave and pitch from one season to the next as the moisture levels in the clay subsoil fluctuate. Who knows where and when the next invasion will occur?
