Nerd Word of the Day: Attachmeant

attachmeantAttachmeant: the file you have to resend because you forgot to attach it the first time.

From the wonderful Erin McKean.

I have it happen ALL THE TIME!

It’s so embarrassing when you write an important email, perfectly written, spell-checked, where it ends on the PERFECT note,  cc’d to 5 very important people. You hit send and then…

DARN IT!!!  I forgot the attachment!

Then you have to send a followup email with your tail between your legs… “Whoops, sorry guys…”

It’s like making a grand exit from the room after saying something witty, then having to skimper back in… a second later… “Oh I forgot my coat!”

Oyi that happens to me so many times I can’t believe good thing I’m not alone

  • seesixcm6

    Dear Marina,
Every month, I send an article to my publisher as an atachment to an e-mail. If I ever failed to attach it, I wouldn’t get paid! (To me, that would be worse than trying to eat a fresh oyster!)

That last paragraph above had me thinking about a time when one is perfectly groomed and is dressed to impress, when one walks into the room, one has attached that nice piece of toilet tissue following everywhere.

I have done this a few times.. But only to you Marina, Believe it or not. You are the only real person I get emails from regulary.

  • sghuisman

After watching: she had some great words there! Marina did you see this talk of Erin McKean?

I do that with my homework quite a bit. It looks pretty silly when I almost have a Master’s degree and can’t remember to attach the actual project. Just goes to show that education and intelligence are not synonimous sinonymous synonymus the same.

Hehe… When I send out e-mails, I usually attach first and write after.
This isn’t some ingenious plan not to forget the attachment, it’s just how I plan my mails ever since I can remember.

By the way, I doubt Marina really says DARN IT! I think it sounds more like a F..k! :-) :-) :-)

I bet it’s really funny when the teacher receives a blank homework. Easy grating for Mr. Somebody here, I’ll give him a D for Dunce. :D
Then he gets the attachmeant, and no matter how bad the project might be, at least a D is assured! :-)
All that was in the spirit of the joke… If Hotforwords’s class is any indicator, I’m sure you’re a straight A student.

Did everyone know that gmail has a tool (in google labs) that remind you that you forgot to send an attachment? How it works, it searches your email to see if you mention that you where going to add an attachment. When you hit the send button it will stop you and ask you if you want to send an attachment. Really cool hu?

For those of you who have Google mail app; Google labs really make gmail a pleasure to use and a great time saver. I’ve google mail my number one email app for it’s powerful features.

How about the word [Mensa]. I joined this genius society around 2002. I had to supply certified proof of my genius IQ. I did good on the IQ test ASVAB-GT when I joined the Army in 1977. I am not sure if this was cloak and dagger or if geniusses in America have hard times like me; but in 1980 in my low rent duplex apartment there was an invitation or advertisement to join Mensa. and I saw that my 138 GT on the Army ASVAB was good enough to qualify. Geniusses have hard economic times as well.
