Got a Kindle miss that booky smell?

can-nebok

Awesome post from over at CrunchGear!

Technology is awesome, but sometimes it just doesn’t smell the same, if you know what I mean.

If you’re an avid Kindle user like myself, this spray will bring back the musty smells you used to experience while flipping through your dad’s old issues of National Geographic Magazine.

What ever happened to the scratch and sniff days….wow…i like a good smell :-)

That new book smell is a whole lot better than the old musky book smell.

I can’t decide between the Eau You Have Cats or the
    Crunchy Bacon Scent.

Just as long as they don’t duplicate that funky secretion smell that comes from dad’s old Playboy magazines!

I hope it smells like new books. I’m thinking of getting a Kindle soon.

I learned my lesson. This time I hermetically sealed those “cream corn casserole” scratch ‘n’ sniff stickers in plastic so the scent lasts :!:

I don’t about the book smell spray, but if theres one thing I’ve remembered the whole time I’ve been watching your videos its, “I like to keep the plastic on my kindle to keep it niiiiiice…{snort}”

That was sooooo funny. I found myself saying that exact phrase over and over again while driving around by myself! Skippy was looking at me like I was a lunatic. Hes probably right!
Pretty sure I can give a run for your money on the delivery with all the driving I do…so wrong in so many ways.

No, I don’t have a Kindle, nor do I miss the smell of books. Even if I did buy a Kindle, I’m positive I don’t need artificial smells to help nme read material.
It’s said that the key to success is “to find a need and fill it.”
I’m not sure there is a need for this product.

I do not have a kindle. I’m not sure I’d like it or not. There is just something I like about the way a book feels in my hands.

Marina, this CAN O BOOK thing is SO funny!
    Moledetz! you and your friends!

It’s great to see you, Gorby and all your friends back around your home base, just being you and producing and enjoying free time together!
I’m happy to order your new book- even though your sister didn’t autograph my calendar like I requested! I’ll overlook it as EVERYBODY knows about her.

    Here’s
TV Commercial for Marina “Tough guy” character,

“I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK and I use HOT FOR WORDS “SMELL OF BOOKS” because it’s BOOKWORM FRIENDLY.”

Or, as Johnny Wyoming says, “Dick Cheney told me the spray was- I have amnesia- some kind of secret Soviet slavic Sex Phermone spray or something they put in the digital ink in the Kindel or however it’s spelled! I have amnesia….do you? Did I tell you I do?” Word request : [zit]

You can’t beat real books. For a start if you loose tour book you can easily buy a new one. A book will not run out of batterys, and also I think loosong what page you were on is half the fun and kindle won’t do that

The smell from National Geographic or other glossy publications is not musty; it is the smell of the clay coating on the paper that makes it glossy. I remember that the smell of the mud in my 5th-grade schoolyard in San Antonio, TX was exactly the same. Every time I smell glossy paper, I remember crossing the yard in the rain and winding up with two inches of clay stuck to my shoes.

Now, there is a musty smell to some old magazines (like Life magazine) having a somewhat smooth paper (as opposed to newsprint or standard books). But I think they get that way through age, so the phrase “new book smell” would not apply. I wish I could smell the stuff so that I could tell for sure.

book-ass? Just what kind of “books” are you thinking about? :D

Like practically everyone else here, I prefer the real, physical things. They come in varying shapes and sizes, are cheap, aren’t very attractive to thieves, are usually fairly lightweight (unless it’s non-fiction!), can be read in varying degrees of light and also advertise their contents, which act as a neat low-cost advertising strategy.

Oh, and one scent that’s missing from the aerosol collection – that of a leather bookmark. Many tourist attractions here in the UK sell souvenir bookmarks – not only do they smell nice and act as a convenient reminder of how far through books you are, but they also remind you of your visit to the attraction. Somehow, I doubt e-Books could do that…

Evidently the aerosols are a joke, but if they had been manufactured they’d be a prime example of [Chindōgu]…

The feel of paper under my fingers. I really like the texture of paper and the feel of a book. I get much more from my reading when I have the printed material. I also retain material much better when I write on paper. I also believe my most creative writing is when I use pen on paper. Then again, search features on electronic copies do make finding key words much easier.

I like the idea of not having to fight the binding on paperbacks to keep the book open while reading. I like the idea of being able to adjust the fonts, as far as size and style…at least I would hope that function would be optional. Downloads are cheap. That’s good. But the upfront money isn’t. I’m not reliable enough to remember to plug rechargeable items in. My iPod won’t take a charge because I didn’t use it for 6 months. They want to charge $45 to put a new battery in it…actually, they just send another ipod, not your own, so who knows how it’s been treated in it’s life? I bought a razor (as in electric razor) that wasn’t chargeable. I adapt slowly.

I bought me a Kindle reader last summer to have a way to store a souvenier of my nine published e-books and publications on Amazon. I had actually tried to have some small press make me one or two copies of each publication in a leather bound volume. But no one would help me. So, I got the Kindle reader and have all my little e-pubications on it!!!
