There is a lot of hate coming from that reply. Do you have some sort of scarring memory? Always picked last in dodgeball?
Sports are team games where you learn friendship, teamwork and hard work. Not to mention setting goals. Ken Dryden was an amazing goalie in the NHL and also got a degree in university. One must be sound in body and mind so why can't you do both? I am sure that Marina stays physically active. Why is competition such a bad thing? Is that not what brings the best out of some people in sports AND academics? What are scholarships? And why would a scholarship be any different from a college draft?
It just seems to me like you have no right to post insults and then praise Marina. Focus your energy on being more intelligent and less ignorant.

Love and Hate : fundamental to the evolution of the selfish gene, far more general in nature than "Homo Sapien" specific attributes. Without selfish hate the strong Lion does not keep the wimp Lion from reproducing his genes... in very short order there are too many wimpodite Lions running around, they are not strong enough to survive Nature and the Lions go extinct. Without maternal love the Mama bear does not protect her cubs from the hazards of Nature (including foremost Daddy Bear) and if the progeny do not survive with a high enough probability the result is the same, exit Bears stage left. (note football theme adhered to with Lions and Bears just to be consistent. Note also that both the Lions and Bears exited stage left this year :)

Food : fundamental necessary ingredient for survival of any species; strong genes fight for and win the food to survive into the future (win food + win mate = survive gene into future). Couple some bad aspects of human psyche on top and you start to get some nasty side effects like greed and hoarding. Intelligence might be sexy to some but it can also be vicious and cruel as all hell in competition for finite resources; potentially even self defeating if the negative side effects of high intelligence dominate to the point that it undermines the entire underlying force of gene propagation. If this happens Nature will just shrug and say whoops that was a bad mutation, and continue down some other path into the future minus that Homo putative "Sapien". Food, money, power, land amount to the same drive force in selfish (gene) hate/greed driven competition for finite resources. No Free Cake in Nature! (with the unfortunate implication of No Peace either :( )

I don't mean by this commentary to give intelligence or the human pysche a bad rap across the board. Attributes of compassion and integrity are some of the positive aspects of humans which oppose the selfish forces. There are good and bad sides to almost everything.
