After watching Orielly tonight I just wanted to let you know your doing all the right things. I am amazed at how much you know about the english language. One of Iain Banks’ characters is named “Darkense” and her nickname is “Darkle.” I randomly did a search on Darkle recently and discovered that it’s a real word, which really surprised me, since I don’t think I ever encountered it before. Can you tell us where [darkle] came from?
My first guess as to the meaning of “darkle” was that it’s the opposite of “sparkle” – well, kind of …
Now, the present participle of “darkle” is “darkling”, and this is what bar girls in Bangkok call the bar patrons – “Hallo Darkling, come and sit down please”, after which invitation they invariably collapse in giggles, because “ling” is Thai for a monkey and “dark” is Thai for haemorrhoid, so they’re calling these foreign men “monkey’s haemorrhoids”.

When were you in Seattle? That’s my old hometown before moving to sunny SoCal. Did you like it up there? I miss it sometimes.
OK, my top 10 word requests time…
1) Goose Egg. Why does this mean zero? Why not a duck egg, or some other animal?
2) Shit eating grin. Why would eating shit make you grin?
3) Yellow, as in being a coward. How did the color yellow come to represent being cowardly as opposed to another color?
4) Dozen. Why does this mean 12?
5) Hookie? What is hookie and why does playing it mean you don’t go to school?
6) 3 sheets to the wind. Why does this mean drunk? If you are super drunk are you 6 sheets to the wind?
7) Cowlick. When you’re hair sticks up in the back. Why not a horse lick?

1) Would there be a significant difference in viewer experience (and your work-load) if the slide-show were converted to a video?
2) While at the fish-market in Seattle, did you try your hand at fish tossing and catching?
3) Every time I see the slide-show, two things stand out as things that do not belong with the rest: one is the finger and the other is the awkward stance. I do not understand the reason why either of them is present.
Regarding (3) above: Earlier, I had not registered the chocolate bar in the photo with the finger; now that I see the bar, that picture is no longer incongruous — one mystery solved! Don’t get the awkward stance on the staircase (as though you want to go) and so that photo is still incongruous.
Marina, I always thought that you must have been a beautiful baby, but these pictures confirm it.
I particularly like the one of you in pink jeans and black top, with my initials scrawled on the wall behind you. :lol:
I’ve been in that same spot on the Capilano Bridge in Vancouver, and I suspect I recognise that swimming pool too.
This has brought back some happy memories and given me some more for the future. I look forward to seeing more soon. :smile:

I shall echo what some posters have already written: Is it possible to identify the location of each image? In Photoshop, create a text layer and just indicate that in a non-intrusive area. I have never seen the places you were photographed in. Thank you!!

Right. There’s a lot of talent in those pics not being used. On top of my idea that Marina should have her own late-nite movie hostess show, like Elvira, with possibly a new word for each movie as the theme… I also think that Marina should do some travelogs of her mother country, Russia. We in the West have seldom seen footage of Russia and I think a special or series of specials on this would be big. And, as I’m sure everyone will agree, Marina should model more bikinis. :wink:

Gosh, very nice pics. Vancouver is one of my favorite cities in Canada. Wish I go there. All I been to outside of Chicago was Indiana (South Bend), Wisconsin, Florida and Michigan. I always enjoy a view of Lake Michigan mostly in the Windy City during summertime. :razz:
