Hi Marina. I know that you tery to keep thiongs clean here, but I am currious about the word origins of the most commonly used profanities, such as the "F" word and cloquial words for excrement. I think here in america, people use the "F" word too often without knowing what they are saying because what they are really saying makes absolutely no sence. It seems to have either lost its origional meaning or has become just another profanitty. If you are comforatable with this, I am sure you can offer theese words some educational service. Thanks

I could be wrong swampwiz, but most places and books say that racoons are most closely related to bears and dogs. There are some living reletives such as the Red Panda, Ring Tail, and a few others that live in the south american tropics, and a couple of species in south east Asia. Prokyon Lotor is unique amongst the prokyonoids. I have never heard, or read anywhere about racoons being related to any of the sea mamals.

I read a little bit about the racoon. They have a word assosciated with them in german as "the washing bear". "Waschbar", or prokyon lotor-neo latin "before-dog washer". Prokyons are unique as they are more or less a divergent carnivore specied from the canines and bears. This animal family, Procyonidae, lived in Europe in the late Oligocene about 25 million years ago. They eventualy crossed over the bearing land bridge and ended up in the great plains region of the united states. Racoons will dunk their food in water before they eat it, or have a facination with shiney things.
