Yes, it's sad that this forum is not about the language anymore.

I asked why so much old users had gone away because mostly they (like Buzzword, Bob, hs4mm and several others) supported those discussion about the language, so it's hard to figure out what was the reason and what was the consequence.

The discussions are getting dumbed down more and more every month.

ah. good old times. when p11 was arguing for some weird shit and there actually were discussions about language. that was cool.
i think it was you who, a few days ago, asked why many of the people who were active on the site aren't here anymore. i think that this is one of the reasons. there _were_ discussions that did _not_ center on how much of a sex goddess marina is or some crap like that. and even though p11 was wrong all along it was fun fucking with him. lol. yeah, i kinda miss that. somehow the discussions on here seem to have dumbed down or something.

I agree with most aLx's comments.

In linguistics as science (and the contemporary linguistics is closer to logical or mathematical formalism than to humanities) there is no room for subjective opinions about "good" or "bad" uses of language. It describes the actual state of languages in many levels of complexity (from particular dialects and languages to language as such).

Prescriptivism is not the matter of science, but politics and social engineering. Use of the uniform variant of language by all the citizens of a country is advantageous to the territorial and social consistency of the country. I can accept this argument.

Prescriptivists are rather against innovations, but without them language wouldn't be constantly developing. On the other hand, too many innovations can impair the process of communication, especially between people of different social backgrounds, so teaching people the "standard" variant of the language is useful. But if a "non-standard" variant is used inside a particular group and don't bring any possibility of misunderstanding, that seems to be OK.

What's up with that umbrella (in the video)?
How do I become the teachers pet?
Is petting involved?

Yes... that 7 note scale is great. It can be figured out logically by using any string and plucking harmonics on it. *Like*... if you start with a G-string and pluck 1/3 the length it is a D note

--The use of a seven-note diatonic musical scale is ancient, though originally it was played in descending order.

That's really funny... she copied you exactly.
They call that {<a href="http://www.thefreedictionary.com/quiddity" rel="nofollow">quiddity</a>} but I don't know how to use it in a sentence.

Capturing (or getting to) the essence of something that makes it unique

I click on the video because (of course) it looked like one of yours (that was stretched) and I was going to check it for you.
