It was quite creepy to watch your video as it constantly had interruptions during the reception. It almost felt like truly there were some ghosts trying to stop the video. The good thing was that I saw your best angles during those frozen moments. What I mean with this, is that when you smile, the world turns brighter and everything seems happy. Well I never thought I’d see the day that Marina was frightened by knockers. I’m not afraid of knockers, and I don’t let them distract me from my Hot For Words lesson. They’ll do that if they can get away with it, but I’ve learned to handle knockers firmly and directly so as to get a grasp of the situation. You could say I take a hands-on approach to such knockers. :twisted:

So, ya, what I take away from this lesson is that poltergeists are unearthly knockers. Anybody else think ‘unearthly knockers’ when they watched this video? :roll: Anyone? Or am I the only one here still haunted by the booby humor of the last lesson? :shock:

I’m going to cheat a little on my homework and pick a word related to geist. Since I was commenting last lesson about Marina’s great dane (which may have temporarily been shrunken by poltergeists into a pink-eared puppy), I thought I’d pick a ghest instead of a geist. My word is barghest, a spectral hound which is the ghost of a dead dog. A very cool word and a very cool creature of horror fantasy. Maybe instead of calling Ghostbusters (I wonder if Marina was talking to Egan), she just needs to get a barghest to chase those poltergeists away. Or take a page out of ‘The Hound Of the Baskervilles’ and dress that great dane of hers to look like a barghest. That’ll bust those unearthly knockers! :evil:

Despite my mockingly knocking those knockers in your video, I seriously did not know that the ‘polter’ part of poltergeist specifically meant knocking. The ghost part was easy to figure from ‘geist’, but I did not know that the entire word basically means a ghost that knocks, and it was indeed a word I was always curious about being a fan of supernatural horror literature. p.s. just out of curiosity, does anybody know if Marina’s great dane shows up in any specific video lessons? I believe I saw it in the Harlequin lesson (not sure why the dane was in that particular video, but it was), but was wondering what others it might be in. It is a really beautiful-looking dog, and I don’t think great danes are all that common, as I’ve seen some but not that many. cool hound :cool:

:???: Ummm… the word “Poltergeists” is another word that has “geist” in it and so does “Weltgeist” which is the “World Spirit” accoding to the ancient Greeks during the time of Socrates. The belief that the earth itself has its own living spirit.

“geist” is kinda hard to translate. it depends on the context how you translate it.

yeah, teamgeist is team spirit. but a poltergeist is a ghost, a noise-making ghost. hegel’s weltgeist is the world mind or spirit. wikipedia states that some english translaters use “spirit-mind” to grasp its meaning.

so, it can mean several things. :/

In german geist means all those things, mind spirit, ghost I think the closest English translation would have to be spirit, in the sense that spirit also differs according to the context, which reminds me, I have to stock my spirit cabinet with some good scotch

In german, “geist” refers to a ghost as the “spirit” of a lost soul.
Zeitgeist, weltgeist and “teamgeist” use the word geist to mean “spirit”
So thats how “poltergeist” means ghost, its the spirit of a lost soul that is noisy probably because it is seeking attention as most lost souils often do….

As the principal of the University of Lexicology, I would have to intervene on Marina’s behalf and state that such a video would be more than slightly controversial as it would be inappropriate for you tube, in that it may be offensive to discuss the origin of such a term, which to me is more “vulgar” than any word describing any sexual act could ever be. Instead, how about a lesson on vulgarity and why the American censors and/or Hollywood consider sex vulgar but murder is Ok but in Europe, sex is Ok but violence is censored?

Riding in again on my white horse to come to Marina’s defense. One, she looks fantastic. She has beautiful blue eyes that sparkle and flash. It should be obvious to all but the most laughably insensate viewers of her videos that she has had some (rather well done) plastic surgery. Regardless, she looks great, and your question does not deserve an answer.

I would “stay away” from the “n” word. There is a huge “downside risk” to hurt your public image – with very little upside potential. With so many other words to work with, you don’t need to go there. In some way’s it’s worse than the c-word… which you handled quite nicely, but you did it in the right forum (satelite radio) and you’re a women.

I can see now it would be tempting – but seriously… you’re on a roll, your talented and you don’t need it… risky.

People wear make-up and clothes, pierce their ears and other body parts, get tattoos, etc. Many cultures put things in their bodies (lip plates, bones, neck extenders, etc) that are far more dramatic than breast implants. If she likes them, then their fine – we only live once – it’s really not any different in its essence than getting a haircut and a manicure (it’s just a more dramatic artificial modification. And they look fantastic to me!

There’s nothing wrong with “fake” breasts (most exciting thing I ever got my hands on actually), provided they are not out of proportion with the rest of the body.

Gesundheit is actually a contraction of a German phrase “geist und heit” which means “Spirit and health”, a blessing given when someone sneezes. So without realizing it, we automatically bless someone with a truncated blessing that reflects 3 John1:2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.”

Your talking backwards reminded me of an American Television Program I used to watch called “Twin Peaks”. They would say their lines backwards phonetically and then David Lynch, the director would put the film in reverse for certain scenes. An example below:
