Dunce?

For the past two hours, I have been thinking that it was ‘Faux’ because clothings are now being called this, but I knew that it was false.

It means the number 8

The word is, indeed, dunce.

I came up with John Duns Scotus the 13th century theolgian. Who wore pointed conical hats thinking it would funnel knowledge into him (sounds more like he wanted to be Merlin the wizard). Later the Dunce Cap was named and used as a punishment by making unruley students were it.
