New York Times “Sexicon”

I’m impressed with the impact you are having beyond You Tube. I’m hoping you hit it big with wherever this is heading. But we’ll miss your lessons when that happens. There is something intimate (that may not be exactly the right word, but it’s close) to your videos that I really like. Oh yeah, besides just looking at and listening to you. When one is doing a performance, like your videos are, viewers always see a persona, not the realy person. But your videos have a real nice ambience that Ms. Heffernan misses. I guess any publicity is good even if the reviewer doesn’t quite get it.

This is horrible. I’d like to hear the writer speak Russian. That would be a laugh. I can get over how mean she is. I am going to think up the best way I can to tall her off, and give her a taste of her own medicine.

Hey lostforwords, I saw your name on the “Recent Comments” list that you were over here. I had forgotten about that NYT blog as I read it back in Dec. I had been meaning to leave a comment there for awhile.

That lady is called a journalist? Give me a break. Marina can write circles around that person. Normally, I would not have commented, but in this case, I had to call it like I see it. If my comment does not get published, here is what I said;

Dear Virginia,
Was I supposed to take your diatribe seriously, or are you practicing your writing to become a stand-up in a vaudeville act? Your writing is atrocious and your choice of words (sexicon, porn, Hooters, vaudeville) says something about your inadequacies and says nothing about Marina’s.

You lost all credibility when you said, “Usually, after a certain degree of fluency, people who speak English as a second language let that stuff drop”. Sorry to disappoint you, but my experience says exactly the opposite.

You should exit your cave more often so as not to mistake appearance for reality. Plato would be proud of you.

Marina is the hippest, most well connected, intelligent, resourceful and caring person I have never met. Those qualities come through loud and clear through her writings and videos. It is these endearing qualities that give rise to her popularity.

Marina has the courage to let her comments to her videos “fly” unmoderated, unedited and uncensored. We’ll see what courage you have with this comment.

Another immigrant who cares about the American language and it’s origins, and who cares how I pronounce words, which makes me truly yours, Pedantic Karl.

Good job Pedantic Karl….Marina is the Queen of words and American education is so unsoulful it is a pity. American education is what the local branch can milk off the central government and then pays off plays of sports and preys on players prayer. Virginia coaches herself to write about other people and is probably jealous of HOTFORWORDS and her Republic of LEXICON…and again…good job :idea:

I hate to draw a broad brush – but this seems to be typical NYT fare.

The old adage – ‘No publicity is bad publicity’ would seem to apply. F the Hack’s opinion – people who come and see will like it or they won’t.

I’ll bet HFW’s traffic increased, and there are people still here that came in through that door.

Yes, indeed, the writer of the article actually did publish my comment, so I do have respect for her. Look at the image of the newspaper clipping at the top. Below the image is a line of text with a smiley. to the right of the smiley is a link which will get you to the NY Times article and all of the other comments including mine. My comment is dated July 14, 2008.
