{Banshees} are frequently described as dressed in white or grey, often having long, fair hair which they brush with a silver comb, a detail scholar Patricia Lysaght attributes to confusion with local mermaid myths. The hag may also appear as a washer-woman, or bean-nighe (washing woman), and is seen washing the blood stained clothes or armour of those who are about to die.

Although not always seen, her mourning call is heard, usually at night when someone is about to die and usually around woods. In 1437, King James I of Scotland was approached by an Irish seer or banshee who foretold his murder at the instigation of the Earl of Atholl. There are records of several prophets

I just remember Brownies from it. Attention was more on the visual aspects of the video than the lesson....or was that the point? Experimenting?

I wonder if the whole 'brownie' myth started out as homeless people sneaking into someone's house, eating their food, then feeling guilty and cleaning their house as recompensation :P

I wonder if I can earn any Brownie points by mentioning the word 'bandersnatch'? A very strange word that I believe is related to the bogey or the boggart. I had heard of the brownie before (and most other such faerie types), but have always been fondest of the buckawn.

And then of course there is the legendary Brownie Mary who hailed from San Francisco and was known for handing out special brownies to the sick and dying. She helped kickstart the medical marijuana movement which to this day is mainly centered around San Francisco, CA. She would definitely represent both meanings of the word 'brownie'.

Thanks again for another interesting lesson, HFW.

Ah marina,

It is a fine day to wake up to comment from you, could you be so kind and tell me where the phrase: 'beauty and the beast' originates.

Good day 'dear lady' good day!
